President's Pen 2001 has come and gone and we can start 2002 with a whole new outlook. The new year will bring many challenges to our club and I urge all members to make a commitment to attend as many meetings as possible. Our committees always provide us with great speakers. Thanks to the committee who put together the Christmas Party. We raised over $200 in our silent auction, which went to the Christmas Clearing House. Everyone who attended had a great time and we missed those of you who could not attend. Thanks for all your hard work and Happy New Year. Kathy |
December Christmas Party Thank you again to Bob and Kathy Alred for hosting our magnificent Christmas party! Her generous and gracious hospitality and her beautifully decorated home created an atmosphere of warm camaraderie. We had our usual good time eating, drinking, and swapping the Christmas gifts. January New Member Orientation At next week's meeting we will be initiating new members. So far, we have 4 and anticipate another 2 by meeting time. Mission Statement for District Four The purpose of District Four Altrusa International, Inc. is to create opportunities for members to improve the quality of life through community service, to develop leadership and to foster understanding of our world and its future. Our Deepest Sympathy Linda Haiglers mother, Grace Gafford, died January12, 2002. Her services will be Monday, January 14. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Club Member News Kathy Alred's son, Rob, became engaged to Ryan Freeman over the holiday season. No date has been set for a wedding. Both Rob and Ryan are attending TSUM at the present time so a wedding is in the future. Melinda Waltons brothers and sister-in-law from Orange Beach and Maryland spent the holidays with her. Melinda is now affiliated with Palomar Insurance Corporation as a long-term care specialist for the Alabama Independent School Association. Linda Haigler has a new work phone and fax number. They have changed to 230-6936 and her fax number is 230-6930. Congratulations to Nell Sellers on the birth of her grandson, Samuel Joseph Sellers. Samuel was born on December 5, 2001. Kay and Jim Miller are off to the beach for a week in January. Kay is taking all of those books she has been saving to read. Pat Morgans granddaughter, Amanda, and her fiancée, Tim McQueen, decided to marry during the Christmas Holidays instead of waiting until next May. Talk about rushing about! A beautiful wedding and reception took place on December 21st with Papa, Rev. John Morgan, officiating. On December 30th Pat Morgan ended up in the hospital with cellulitis in her lower left leg. She had IV antibiotics for 5 days and could only get up to go to the bathroom. |
