From Your President's Pen

The Fourth of July is approaching and most of us think of that holiday as a day to celebrate with fireworks, cookouts and homemade ice cream. Our club certainly has a lot to celebrate. During the past year, we had a very successful fundraiser that benefited "Success by Six" in the amount of $3,500. We were also able to retain some of our funds raised as seed money for the next project we undertake. We were very blessed to have a corporate sponsor like "Alabama World Travel" and Liz Sutton, who were very instrumental in helping us achieve our goal. Charlotte Robertson recently wrote me that she had told Liz during the Cruise Show in January that she wanted to use some of the proceeds from our donation to put new carpet in the Chisholm school. Liz beat her to the punch and has had new carpet installed - so "Success by Six" will be able to use the proceeds from our donation in other ways.

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday. Hope to see you soon.

Kathy

Altrusa Principle #7

Altrusa develops true leadership, concerned with accomplishment and not with recognition.

Altrusa Blessing

For this food before us spread, For our steps in safety lead, For thy favor on our way, Lord accept our thanks today.
AMEN

July Program

We do not have a designated speaker for our July meeting. This meeting is going to be used for a “brainstorming” session. Our attendance was extremely poor in June so let’s all make an effort to attend and support our club. It takes all of us to make Altrusa International of Montgomery successful! Hope to see you there!

June Program

Our June program had eight members present. The program for the evening was the installation of new officers, conducted by Melinda Walton, Chairman of Altrusa Information. The meeting was conducted by Joyce Cobb, Immediate Past President.

Reminder from our Treasurer:

The Club continues to be charged for dinner reservations that are not covered (not cancelled or just didn't show up). Please DO NOT make a reservation if there is a chance you might not be able to attend, the club will always be glad to set another place if you ARE able to attend. There is no guarantee if you make a reservation and then call the club to cancel, that your reservation actually gets cancelled, since voice mail messages have to be left for Dennis. In the future all reservations and cancellations should be handled by Nell or Patsy, a reservation list will be given to the treasurer and a bill will be sent to those who make a reservation and do not attend. Let's remember that we always pay for our speakers meals and the Club cannot afford to be responsible for other meals.

Thanks, Linda

C.I.T.Y. Graduation Ceremony

Pat Morgan reported on plans for the graduation ceremony for the C.I.T.Y. program to be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Greater Washington Park. Altrusa will sponsor the graduation reception again this year. A sign-up sheet was passed around at the June meeting for volunteers to bring food and to help with the set-up. Members not present at the June meeting will be contacted, or should contact Pat (272-2900 or PatCMorgan@aol.com) to make their commitment. Small gifts are also needed. It was suggested that these could be brought to the July meeting. They should be gift-wrapped.

Blast From the Past
July 1995

Hate to exercise? Laughing can keep you fit. It’s no joke: If you want to keep in shape, laugh!

Laughter exercises the abdomen and legs, increases heart rate and circulation, stimulates the immune system and even improves muscle tone, according to studies by Dr. William Fry of Stanford University.

Laughing heartily 100 times a day, he said, has the same beneficial effects as 10 minutes on a rowing machine!

Humor is a spontaneous, wonderful bit of an outburst that just comes. It’s unbridled, it’s unplanned, it’s full of surprises.

Happy Birthday
