Minutes From April 19, 2001 Business Meeting
The April 19,2001 meeting of Altrusa International of Montgomery was held at the Capital City Club, with vice-president Dawn Ellis presiding. Eighteen members were present and two guests. The Fundraising Committee sponsored the program for the evening, which was highlighted by a drawing for the winning ticket for the cruise, and the presentation of a check to the Success By Six Program. The winner of the cruise was Mary Jones, mother of Robin Jones. A check for $3500 was presented to Charlotte Robertson, from the Success By Six Program. Altrusa paid tribute to Liz Sutton, owner of Alabama World Travel, for her support of this project, and presented a lovely plaque to her.
The business meeting was called to order by Dawn Ellis. The minutes of the March meeting were approved. The treasurer's report was also approved. The secretary read a letter from the Central Alabama Laubach Literacy Council advising that Altrusa has been named "Organization of the Year" by the Board of Directors, and that the contributions of the club would be recognized with an award presentation at the Thirteenth Statewide Literacy Conference on April 24,2001. Caroline Barmettler, chair of the club's Literacy Committee, was asked to represent Altrusa at the award luncheon.
Committee Reports: Altrusa Information Committee chairman, Melinda Walton, requested that members who invited guests to the membership party contact their guests regarding interest in joining Altrusa and follow through with their applications. Kay Miller, chairman of the International Relations Committee, announced that the guest speaker in May would be Gwen Lipscomb, from the Minority Health section of the Division of Rural Health, Alabama Department of Public Health.
Election of Officers: The slate of officers presented by the nominating committee last month was accepted by acclamation. The Installation of Officers will take place at the June meeting.
District Conference: Teresa White, Jo Coleman, and Kathy Alred will represent the club at the district conference on April 26-28. Approval was given for the purchase of a gift for the silent auction which will be held at the conference. Attendees will also need to purchase children's books to be presented during the literacy luncheon.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30PM.
Respectively submitted,
