Minutes From August 15, 2002 Business Meeting

Altrusa International, inc. of Montgomery, Alabama, met on August 15, 2002 at the Capitol City Club. Fourteen members and one guest were in attendance. Liz Turnipseed, Community Service Chair introduced the guest speaker, Ed Reifenberg, who heads up the Bone Marrow Transplants - Angels of Alabama. Ed talked about his experience as a Bone Marrow Transplant recipient and the idea to start a program that assists (financially) those individuals and their families who are going through a bone marrow transplant. Mr. Reifenberg relayed the need for this program and provided us with information on who this program helps. Mr. Reifenberg told us that he has a goal of raising $5 Million for the program and hopes to have this goal reached within the next 5-10 years.

Business Meeting

President Kathy Alred presided. She introduced Judy Hammerstein, Governor Elect, District Four, who spoke on recruitment and issues that will be a priority when she assumes the Governor's position in 2003. Enjoyed having her tremendously.

Financial Report given by Linda Haigler indicated balances as of August 15, 2002 of $506.03 in the General Operating Fund and $292.96 in the Service Project Fund.

New Business

Motion was made and passed to contribute $100.00 to the International Foundation in memory of Mary Frances Porterfield.

Yard sale will be held in September or October. Kathy Alred will be chairing the committee for the Fall Yard Sale. Members were reminded to be saving their treasures to contribute to the sale. A reminder was made that the Zoo is requesting volunteers for Zoo Boo. Kathy Alred will contact members about this by the middle of September. Members were reminded to contact Suzanne Marshall on the Tuesday prior to the meeting on Thursday if they need to cancel a reservation. She will contact the Capital City Club and cancel the reservation.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
