Minutes From January 17, 2002 Business Meeting

The meeting of Altrusa International, Inc. of Montgomery, was held on January 17, 2002 at the Capital City Club. Fifteen members were present. Program for this meeting was designated as Initiation and Orientation given by Altrusa Information Committee, led by Melinda Walton, chair. Four new members, Molly Kemp, Alexis McGhee, Liz Turnipseed, and Suzanne Marshall were presented the "Keys to Altrusa" by members; Jo Coleman read the Altrusa Principles; sponsors, members, and initiates responded to oaths as administered by Melinda in an impressive candlelit ceremony. Pins and membership kits were presented to new Altrusans along with a warm welcome.

Business Meeting

Minutes of the November meeting were approved as distributed. Correspondence read by Acting Secretary, Joyce Cobb, included thank-you letters from the Christmas Clearing House for the toys given by members and the club donation of $328; and from C.A.L.L. for the $150 to the Gift of Reading Program.

Financial Report given by Linda Haigler indicated balances as of January 17 of $744.46 in the general operating fund and $1,731.66 in the Service Project Fund.

Community Service: The C.I.T.Y. Christmas party was attended by Pat Morgan and Molly Kemp. The students and staff were most appreciative of the beautiful cake and cookies provided by the club.

International Relations Committee will provide the speaker for the February meeting.

Telephone Committee: Patsy Patton reminded members that reservations must be made by Tuesday of the meeting week.

Courtesy and Concerns: Cards were sent to Pat Morgan and to Linda Haigler. Chairman, Joyce Cobb, again requested notification when there is reason for a courtesy to be extended. Membership again wrote individual notes to absentees.

New Business:

Kathy extended thanks from Ashley Thomas for club members' participation in the teddy bear project, and to Melinda Walton and her committee for the initiation service. Kathy asked membership to be considering possible recipients of funds on hand and to report these at the next meeting for further discussion.

District Four

Correspondence from Governor Scottie Harrell indicated the following: Names are requested from clubs for the District nominating committee; there was no interest by members. Entries for the Mamie L. Bass Community Service Award and for the Letha Brown Literacy Award should be postmarked by February 14. Delegates to conference in Shreveport, LA April 25-28 should be elected soon. Conference fee and hotel for one night per delegate will be paid by club.

Election of club officers will be held in March; nominating committee will be meeting soon and members are encouraged to serve in requested capacity.

District Awards: Lifetime of Achievement Award nominee will be Pat Morgan; Kathy will prepare her nomination. The C.I.T.Y. program will be submitted for the Mamie L. Bass Community Service Award; the entry will be prepared by Pat Morgan, Joyce Cobb, and Caroline Barmettler. The Success by Six project including the fund-raising raffle will be submitted for the Literacy Award. Amy Creel will be responsible for the entry.

Other Business:

Amy Creel requested pictures and other information available to be included in the scrapbook.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
