Minutes From March 21, 2002 Business Meeting
Altrusa International, Inc. of Montgomery, Alabama, met on March 21, 2002 at the Capitol City Club. Seventeen members and one guest were in attendance. Pat Morgan, Community Service Chair, introduced guest speaker, Lynn Beshear, Executive Director of Envision 2020, who explained the long-range plan of the project and compared it to the mission of Altrusa with a strong emphasis on literacy. The process began in 1999 with five counties sharing ideas all giving education the number one priority of the future. Altrusa was strongly encouraged by Lynn to become involved in one of the task forces either individually or as a club project.
The meeting was called to order by vice president, Dawn Ellis, in the absence of the president. Minutes of the February meeting were approved as distributed.
The financial report given by treasurer Linda Haigler indicated balances as of $786 in the general operating fund and $1,681.66 in the Service Project Fund. A contribution in the amount of $50.00 was sent to the International Foundation in memory of past governor Frances Stewart.
Altrusa Information Committee: Melinda Walton announced an orientation program for new members is being planned.
Community Service Committee: Toilet articles saved by members will now be contributed to the Friendship Presbyterian Church in Hope Hull for distribution to the homeless. Items should be given to Kay Miller who will be responsible for delivery to the church.
International Relations: Kay Miller reported that she will begin work now toward nomination of Peggy Funk of the International Families Orientation Program as Volunteer of the Year in 2003.
Literacy: Caroline Barmettler announced she will have an interesting program for the April meeting.
Courtesy/Concerns: Joyce Cobb announced that cards had been sent to Alice Douglass and Grace Boozer. She further requested that she be notified when a member needs a courtesy extended.
Amy Creel, Scrapbook Chair, requested any pictures be given to her for inclusion. She requested that pictures be identified by name, activity, and date.
Yard Sale: Nell Sellers volunteered to serve as chair, Linda Haigler will serve as co-chair. Dawn will secure the Rehab Center for the sale and will notify us of the date when established. April 27 and April 20 are possible sale days.
Old Business: Nominating Committee, Docie Haslum, Chair, Kay Miller and Caroline Barmettler presented the following slate of officers to be voted on at the April meeting:
President: Kathy Alred
Vice President: Melinda Walton
Secretary: Jo Coleman
Treasurer: Linda Haigler
Director 2 yrs: Nell Sellers
Conference Delegate: Kathy Alred will represent our club at conference in Shreveport, LA. Motion was made by Joyce Cobb, seconded, and passed that the club pay air fare of $208.00 in addition to the usual paid registration fee and hotel room.
Further discussion of disposition of funds in the Service Project Fund was postponed until a later meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
