Minutes From May 17, 2001 Business Meeting

Altrusa International, Inc of Montgomery met for the regular dinner and program meeting at the Capital City Club. The meeting was called to order by the Vice President, Dawn Ellis, in the absence of the President.

The program was presented by the International Relations Committee, chaired by Kay Miller. The speaker, Gwen Lipscomb, Director, Minority Health Section, Office of Primary Care and Rural Health Development, AL Dept of Public Health, discussed the Hispanic population in Alabama, its relevance to health and other concerns.

The business meeting was called to order by Dawn Ellis. The minutes of the April meeting were distributed and approved upon motion by Joyce Cobb, seconded by Nell Sellers.

Communications included a thank you letter from Success By Six for the contribution of $3500 presented to them as a result of Altrusa's fund raising project. A resignation letter from Judy Brown was read and accepted.

Kay Miller displayed a literacy award presented to Altrusa by the Laubach Council on Literacy for our support and assistance.

Linda Haigler, Treasurer, reported a balance of $1207.11 in the general fund and a balance of $3011.56 in the Special Projects Fund. The report was accepted.

Committee reports:

New Business:

The presiding officer reported that it was hoped that committee chairs for the past year would continue for the next year with a few changes. New chairs shall be: Courtesy and concerns--Joyce Cobb, Membership--Nell Sellers, Yearbook--Jo Coleman, Scrapbook--Amy Creel.

Joyce Cobb displayed the certificates for emeritus members, Virginia Gilchrist and Mary Frances Porterfield. The certificates will be mailed to them.

Kay Miller is a candidate for International Foundation Board of Directors. Joyce Cobb moved that registration and two nights hotel expense at International Convention be provided. Seconded by Nell Sellers and approved.

Kay Miller moved that Altrusa donate $150 to CALL for speakers honorariums. Seconded by Jo Coleman and approved.

Pat Morgan encouraged members to participate in the ENVISION program for Montgomery.

Teresa White and Jo Coleman gave informal reports of the recent District Conference at which they represented the club.

With no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
