Our first featured rider is me, Rob Quinlan, owner of this website.

OSF.com - How did you get started riding bikes?
RQ - I started riding bikes after my older brother Don bought me a 80' Mongoose race bike from a kid who actually raced it. I don't remember the details of the set up, but I do remember it being a black frame with a chrome Tange fork. I rode that bike everyday learning wheelies and jumping. Many more bikes followed, and I eventually ended up with a Hutch Trickstar that is still in my possession. I've spent my entire life from age 7 to now on a bike. Everyday I ride my bike to work, hitting "spots" on the way to and from. It's kept me healthy in mind and body all these years and I'll keep riding until I physically can't any longer. Riding has done so much for me and I don't think I'd be as happy as I am today if I hadn't been pushed by my brother that day and told to "keep pedaling!". Guess I took that advice literally. Thanks Don.

OSF.com - So that makes you HOW OLD?
RQ - I'm 31...

OSF.com - Who are some of your influences in riding?
RQ - Well, in the beginnning when I first started, there were so many riders to look up to. I guess over the years the main people whose style I really appreciated or whose attitude on riding I respected had the most influence on me. Then and now I still respect the progression that people like Woody Itson, Mike Dominguez, Ron Wilkerson, and Mat Hoffman brought to the sport. I can't name all the riders, but here's a few who I've always liked throughout my life on bikes. Rick Moliterno, Craig Grasso, "Dizz" Hicks, Gary Pollack, Dave Vanderspeck, Pete Augustin, Eddie Roman, BRIAN BLYTHER, RL Osborn, Eddie Fiola, Dave Voelker, Dino DeLuca, and tons more.

OSF.com - That's quite a list, who do you think is got that kind of influence these days?
RQ - Man, there's so many riders all the time who are killing it and everyone looks up to... but I'd say right now, I'm stoked on Van Homan, Cory Martinez, Brian Wizmerski, Nate Wessel, Dave Dillewaard, Mike Escamilla, Matt Beringer, Edwin DeLaRosa, Tah Mihelich...there's still so many...

OSF.com - So let's talk about your bike...
RQ - It's dope...

OSF.com - Right, but what's with the coaster brake...? You've got to be the only dude who still runs one besides the tykes with training wheels...
RQ - It's actually a 48 hole Suntour coaster hub with an ACS Freecoaster cog on it...which allows me to switch between freewheel and coaster brake. I was always a strictly coaster brake rider all through the early 80's and when the freecoaster deal came out, I got one... I like to keep my options open. I usually switch it over to coaster a few times during a ride for kickturns or pedal pickers...

OSF.com - On the subject of your wheels still...what's up with your rims?
RQ - Thier 48 hole Nylon ACS Z-Rims...lightweight and strong...and no you don't put them in the freezer to straighten them!

OSF.com - Your also running old pedals...why?
RQ - I've always liked the MKS Graphite X pedals...lightweight and strong...my shoe never slips off...my shins don't get gouged as bad...

OSF.com - Anything else on your bike modified or different?
RQ - Well, even though Rick Moliterno has been around for a long time and used to run a coaster brake himself back in the day, the Standard's I've seen don't have coaster brake tabs...big surprise!... so I used an old Dia-Compe hinged MX seat post clamp to hold the coaster brake arm to the frame.

OSF.com - Any words you'd like to throw out there?
RQ - I'd like to thank my brother Don for getting me a great bike to start on and for pushing me that day to learn to ride. My Mom for sponsoring me in the 80's and buying me bike parts...and driving my up to Rockville BMX on my birthday to get things. All my friends whom I've ridden with over the years...for getting me to the Rockville BMX shows and 2 HIP KOV contests in DC back in the day. I'd also like to thank the "Old Guys Tuesday Night Riding Club" for keeping me stoked on riding! Those guys RULE! Thanks to Greg and Mark Thompson and all the Arnold/Annapolis riders for all the years of being riding buddies.
