Wellstone's Final Ad Was to Debut

WASHINGTON (AP) - An ad that Sen. Paul Wellstone had written himself was scheduled to begin airing Friday.
``Paul scripted it and read it and said he wanted to close the campaign with it,'' said Jim Farrell, spokesman for the Minnesota Democrat's re-election campaign.
A male narrator starts the ad by saying, ``You always know where he stands and who he stands up for. Paul Wellstone. He's fearless about challenging even the most powerful interests to do what's right for people, for Minnesota, and that's pretty rare these days.''
Wellstone then comes on and says, ``I don't represent the big oil companies, I don't represent the big pharmaceutical companies, I don't represent the Enrons of this world.
``But you know what, they already have great representation in Washington. It's the rest of the people that need it. I represent the people of Minnesota.''
