The Corporate media is blacking out coverage of the Wellstone Memorial service

Its become a standard feature on CNN and the other corporate media news channels. The Memorial service. Anytime a child dies violently, whether through a kidnapping or a school shooting, every corporate media channel goes into full-time coverage of the memorial service of the death.
Just recently, the corporate media showed wall-to-wall coverage of the memorial services for the sniper victims in DC.
Now, a major American political figure dies violently. Whether you liked him or not, Paul Wellstone was a major opposition political leader in this country. One of the very few with the courage to stand up and oppose the Bush junta.
As I write this, a Memorial service is being held for Sen. Wellstone. If you turn to CNN, MSNBC, FOX, CNBC or any of the other corporate media channels, you won't see any coverage of this. None. A memorial service for a sniper victim gets hours of coverage on all of these channels. A memorial service for an opposition politician who dies violently gets zero coverage. None, nada, nothing, zero. Completely blacked out.
It is on Cspan. That's how I know its happening right now.
I post this to make a point. The point is that you can't trust the corporate media to tell you things you should know about. I realize that most of the people who read Indymedia already know this. But its a point that needs to be made, and needs to be made often. If there is anyone reading this who didn't already know you can't trust the corporate media, then take note. For those who already know this, now you have a concrete example to use in conversations with others.
Its bizarre that a sniper victim's memorial service gets national tv coverage, but the memorial service for an opposition political figure who died violently gets no coverage.
The way the corporate media lies to us is subtle. Its as much of what they don't tell us as what they do tell us. What they blackout, hide and obscure is sometimes hard to notice. You have to know about the story from another source before you realize that CNN is not covering the story. So sometimes its hard to see how it is the corporate media is lying to you and manipulating how we think.
Yet noticing this is critical. One of the things we HAVE to do is that we have to get the majority of people in this country to the point where they do not trust the corporate media. Most of us who read and post at Indymedia are already there. But we need to convince more and more Americans of this.
So its important to take note of what the corporate media covers, and just as important to take note of what they don't cover.
The subtle message from the corporate media tonight is that Paul Wellstone is already forgotten. Don't think of him. Don't ask any questions about who he was, what he stood for, what he fought for or how he died. The corporate media wants to broadcast the message that Paul Wellstone has already been erased and dropped into the memory hole.
Its important for us to remember our own heros. Whether its Paul Wellstone, or someone who dies in a tree-sit, or someone who is sent to prison for opposing the state.
The good news is that most of the people reading this already know this. Our goal is to make the nation know this.
