During the October half term JJ went on an adventure in search for surf. He was headed to the world-class break in Spain called Mundaka. He was the only surfer on the trip and so was as usual completely un-organised. No board, no finz, just a pair of boardies a sort of rash suit (a very, very thin wetsuit) and his mum, dad and brother. He arrived after a four hour drive on Mundaka point just by a river to see flatiest of a flats. JJ was almost in tears when an Aussie in local surfshop called, LOS WAVOS told him of a massive once a liftime storm hitting the Med. JJ just laughed in his face because, as we all know, you get bigger waves in a goldfish bowl than in the Med!. The bloke showed JJ the charts and a sudden look of amazement hit his face.
JJ had friends that had  agreed to let him and his family stay at a FINCA in JAVEA on the Med.
When James arrived they went for a meal on the sea front, where there were signs of a small swell but nothing major.
The next day JJ spent all day trying to get hold of a board and finz but there were none to be founs anywhere. After the SIESTA at around 8:30 pm he found a surfshop called  WAVESURF and saw a board for sale, made by Puerta Rican designer GENESIS a with a double bat tail, surlin deck, dow core, channels... the lot.!
James lured he shop keeper into letting him hire the board for four days for about 1000 pesetas. He also bought a second hand but hardly used pair of churchill slashers for a throwaway price of about 4500 pts (approx £17).
He entered the water the next moring with crowds of people looking at smallish empty Med Kegs from the beach. JJ walked into the water as cooly as ever and started an easy paddle out. He was surfing some of the nicest looking waves he had ever seen in luke warm water. It was about 3-4 foot and as glassy as possible. Rob, JJs brother used to take water shots for a big internet site so took these shots of JJ.
The next day the swell began to build as it did for the rest of the week. For a few days it was 6ft+ and clean. JJ had the best seshes of his life in the so called 'millpond'.
So; next time u see a huge low on the Med, head down there! Here are the rest of his holiday snaps. Check out how big some of these waves are!
