Notes: A light-hearted piece with an extremely implausible plot twist!
Synopsis: Thatcher has some important news for the Mountie.
So, how should I tell him?
by: Marie-Andrée
"Sir, you wished to see me?" Thatcher had been on a rampage all week, and even
Fraser was afraid of her now. He was surprised when she sighed. He wondered what he had
done.
"Yes, Constable. I need your help."
"Sir?" She thought of various ways of beating about the bush, but decided that the
straight way might be better. Right, like ripping a band-aid off of a wound.
"I'm pregnant, Constable." The Mountie's jaw dropped.
"Um, Sir, does the father know?"
"I need your help, Constable, in breaking the news to him." Fraser nodded. "You have
been so understanding about, well you know what I'm talking about. Besides, I think that you
and Elaine belong together. We were..." Fraser actually interrupted her.
"Sir, to get back on track, what exactly do you want me to do?"
"Nothing really, Constable. Just tell me the best way to break it to him."
"Uh... I'm not sure. Just how did he go about, um, telling you his feelings?" She
laughed.
"He was berating me for berating you. Then he said 'Just because I love you doesn't
mean I'll let this pass.' I don't even think he realised that he'd said it. Once it was said, of
course, I realised that while what I felt for you was physical, what I felt for him was so much
more."
"I suppose, then, that you should just slip the information into the conversation. I don't
know... Honey, we're having lamb and peas for dinner. By the way I'm pregnant. What do you
feel like for dessert?" Thatcher burst out laughing at seeing this unexpected side of Fraser.
"That could work. I still cannot believe I'm married to him, of all people! I
mean, he's a full twenty years older than me, Fraser!"
"Leftenent Welsh is an honourable man, Inspector. I can see that he loves you very
much. The two of you have much in common, Sir. Primarily that you are very much in love. I
must admit that I was shocked when you announced the news!"
"No more shocked than I was when you announced that you were marrying Elaine
Besbriss!" Fraser laughed.
"I suppose it happened much the same way that it happened with you, Sir." He looked
at the Inspector slyly. "I wasn't going to wait for you my whole life, and frankly I'm glad I
didn't! I just can't understand why I couldn't see what was under my own nose!"
"I know the feeling, Constable. Thank you for your help."
"You are most welcome, Inspector."
"Fraser, I'm sorry for being such a pill this week. I wanted to apologize privately to
you. I'll make a public apology to the whole staff this afternoon." Thatcher could see that
Fraser was stunned by this and she smiled,
"I guess my maternal instincts are running in overdrive! Dismissed."
"Yes, Sir."
