Myfanwy's Ghost

Many people believe that the spirit of Myfanwy still resides at the spot where she plunged to her death almost a century ago. Witnesses have claimed that sudden pockets of cold air are felt on the Taff Trail, and strange wimpering can be heard along the Morlais Heritage Trail. Former priest of Ponticill chapel and churchyard, Fr. Henry Jones, has no doubt that these are the ghosts of Myfanwy and her younger brother. He says,
“It is clear that the young girl is still looking for her brother. The love that I have read about between them was as strong as any other brother and sister. Huw aswell is waiting for his elder sister to save him, although we know that this will never come to pass”.
Reports of footsteps along the ‘canal wall’ have been heard by many, and a young lady with wet clothes has often been sighted along the river. Active walker Terry Williams recalls one such frightful enounter.
“About 4 years ago I was walking along the path with my dog, and I heard a big splash in the river next to me. I bent over to look, naturally, but there was no one there. As I turned around to start walking again there was this young girl standing about 12 feet away from me. She was soaking wet and was crying hysterically, but when I walked towards her she disappeared”.
There is still controversy surrounding these allegations, but it is clear to see that the spirit of poor Myfanwy and her little brother Huw are still in the area, waiting to be rescued.
