It's been almost nine years, and goshdarnit, it means a tonne to me.  I can't think of any other friend whom I have known longer than I have known you.  You have always been such a great friend to me and you have rarely ever let me down.  How do I go about thanking you for that?  I just don't know.  You have been there for me when I was just a young child starting a new life in Vancouver.  You have been there for me when I felt down and wanted to move back to Toronto.  You have been there for me when I grew up and made the transition to high school.  You have been there for me through my ups and downs as I grew old and as I grew up.  You have been there for me through my hardest times--those times when I felt like I couldn't hold on, those times when I felt as if I just needed a good cry, those times when I felt as if I just needed a friend.  You have always been there for me and I can't imagine what starting university will be like, for this will be the first school in nine years that I will be starting without you being there with me all throughout my journey.  Regardless of all the good times that await me in the future, I know that it would be a complete loss if I did not keep in touch with you as well.  Nine years is an awfully long time to have to put up with a brat like me and I thank you for that.  I'll miss you after graduation, and my dear Jan, this following poem is for YOU from your first sis!!  I luv you lots always, forever and a day.
Nine Years, My Friend

Nine years have almost passed us by
Nine years of wanting to smile and laugh and cry
Tears of joy have always blessed our eyes
And those talks about us drifting apart?  All lies
We will never fall apart, or stop being friends
We will survive; our friendship is one that never ends
468 weeks have slowly crept up from behind
468 weeks of hardships, on the heart and the mind
So many obstacles endured, lie in our past
Each and every one, proof that our friendship will last
The reasons for staying friends, that list keeps on going
And the sisterly luv we share, it never stops showing
3287 days off that calendar on the wall
3287 days of talks and smiles that sums up it all
Great friends since the age of nine
I am your friend, and you still are mine
Please let this friendship continue to grow strong
Let me know that I am right, in this I am not wrong
88488 hours in our past that look into who we are now
88488 hours that explained the reason behind each why and how
We have been through so much, and stayed friends nevertheless
Always know that in times of trouble, I'll help you out of that mess
You must know that you are luved and always forever will be
For our friendship will survive and last for all of eternity.
