My Sketches

Home Contents

Hi!

Yes, this is where I put up my sketches. Some of the things I have done are from Rubbings... Rubbings are where I have found an image or part of an image I liked and decided to try my hand at some inventive techniques on the "original" image. These images are NOT my original ideas and the originals, and those characters, belong to the original artists and / or their respective copyright holders. I have just copied and modified the original in some way to make it "mine." The word mine, in this instance, does not mean that I own anything more than the image I have created. These images are PLAINLY marked.

I have done some of my own sketches from rubbings of my own work. Sometimes the idea came from another artist, BUT, I drew the portion of the image, or the complete image FREEHAND first, then I made the rubbing from MY OWN work. These are ALSO plainly marked.

My preferred drawing tools are a 0.5mm "Sharp," P205 series, Pentel Automatic Pencil with HB, (Medium), grade lead. A Pink Pet eraser from Staedler for shading and smudging and a hard white pencil style ink eraser for cleaning up. The most satisfying drawing stock I've found to date is the back of some rather "crappy" Ink-Jet Photo Printer paper. As a drawing stock it's great if you use the back side. As a "photographic print" paper, for my printer, it rots.

All works listed herein are copyrighted by their creator, ME -- Wendy. I reserve all rights to these images. Some images were drawn from frames featured in the on-line comic strip, Lean On Me, by Jade Gordon. Those Characters, the character ideas and the original drawings and images are the sole property of Ms. Jade Gordon. -- WARNING -- Ms. Gordon's strip is rather on the alternative side and requires an open mind should you decide to visit. If you think you have just such a mind, please do visit. It is a rather poignient strip and an interesting commentary on life as we all seem to know it.

Ms. Gordon was thrilled with the sketches I have done of her work and has posted some of them, with my permission, at the following Web Addresses:

Why Ms. Gordon would be so thrilled with such "schlock" art is way beyond me.

The following sketches were done using
Ms. Gordon's On-Line comic strip
"
Lean on Me" as inspiration.

My 1st try at drawing ever!

This was my first stab at Ms. Gordon's art, as well as the first time I ever tried to do more than a mechanical drawing. Below MY rendition is the original I worked from.

My 2nd Try

This was my second try at Ms. Gordon's art. This time the originals are to the left of my renditions of her strip.

Dreams

This incorporates the 2 images you see above, into one.

Ohmigod!

This was my last attempt at Ms. Gordon's Art. Note the idea for the hands... It shows up later. Again, Ms. Gordon's original is to the left of my endeavour.

School Lunch

This was probably my most ambitious take-off of Ms. Gordon's art that I've attempted. It takes the body and hands idea from one frame of Ms. Gordon's art, (see hands in the next frame), and the head from another. After starting the drawing with the torso, I found I that liked this part of the sketch too much to alter it. So, I scanned it, mirrored it and proceeded to draw the outlines. Then I added the head and altering the facial expression. Then I shaded the whole thing with a Mechanical pencil.

Hands

This is a scan of the hands I used in the previous sketch. For some reason, I really liked this sketch. I still do. I think it has something to do with the sweater if you must know the truth.

This is an Original that I am currently working. It is something a bit larger and MUCH more intimidating than I am used to working. It was STARTED as a RUBBING from the next scan.

This is an Original. I did this in my small sketch book 8.5x5.5. It takes up about 60% of the page. I liked it and I didn't like it. So I scanned it, mirrored it, traced what showed through the paper, made a rubbing into my BIG sketch book, and altered it.

This is an Original in a 9x12 Sketch book, I'm thinking of lightening the lines and painting it with either pastels or watercolor pencils.

This is an original I'm working. This is what a rubbing template looks like BEFORE I rub it onto the paper I will work it on. A Friend of mine has decided her name should be Arwen. I sorta like it. Below is a scan of the working image.

This is an original I'm working. This is what a working rubbing looks like After I rub it onto the paper &I start to work on it.

This is an original I'm working. No, It looks BAD because it is too faint to scan properly, not because I can't scan something.

This is an Original, It looked so REAL with normal eyes I redid them overly large so it wouldn't disturb me to look at it. The original was so faint I couldn't scan it so I darkened some of the lines, (crudely), and scanned it.

The following images were all started from rubbings of the original pictures.

This is a rubbing I did from an "Anime" Image I pulled off the net. The original artist is Yui Toshiki. Be warned, this site has some frontal nudity on it! The original image is here.I liked the girl & the pose so I did the rubbing and made some changes in shading and detail. I have included 2 other images to illustrate the way things look before during and after I do a rubbing.

This is a rubbing I did from an "Anime" Image I pulled off the net. The original artist is the same one that does the Anime and Manga Lum. No, I can not remember his or her name. I liked the girl & the pose so I did the rubbing and made some changes and shading enhancements.

This is a rubbing I did for a friend of mine that is a BIG Bugs Bunny fan. She kept begging me for a sketch of Bugs, so rather than really blow it with a bad sketch, I did a rubbing of a flat image from the WB site and did the shading and highlighting.
