Of Valves, the past of Radio..
There stands a "Vacuum tube"
An "Old Fashioned" radio valve.
A glass bottle, with little tin legs.
Replaced by transistors, but hardly forgotten
Tho' I'm too young to recall,
The days when they ruled the air
But I've heard the "Wireless" set
Built with the venerable valve.
I've met some of those people,
Who worked in those old days.
and They've told me all about
The wonderful glowing bottles.
I read up all the theory,
the Projects, and reviews,
I know well what they look like,
And I've seen a very few.
And they say that a Wireless
has a sound all of its own.
Indeed I have listened,
And heard this for myself
I've listened to old wirelesses,
And imagined my ancestors
enjoying a favourite programme,
around their blazing fire.
for The Wirelesses of old,
Had a cabinet made of wood.
Some magnificent old models,
were the setmaker's art.
There were large ones, so elaborate,
Which would stand upon the floor,
And small ones so compact
They could fit upon a table.
But the parts have all gone
Tho a few sets still remain,
Most of these restored,
By the wreck of another.
Tis' a pity these modern days.
That Valves are becoming rare,
So hard to find some more,
To fix that old time wireless.
