How three orphans can steal CBS series

In Family Affair, it's the kids who steal the show. Anissa Jones as Buffy and John (sic) Whitaker as Jody were supposed to be supporting characters for stars Brian Keith and Sebastian Cabot when the CBS Monday night comedy series went on the air in the fall.

Cabot has been ill and out of the cast for a while (he's due back in March), and English actor John Williams has been his substitute. But the kids and Kathy Garver, as the teen-ager, Cissy, have held on to the strong ratings.

Kathy, 18, is a TV veteran of many shows, including Ben Casey and Dr. Kildare. She's majoring in speech at UCLA. Anissa, 8, and John, 7, portray twins, but she is the daughter of a Purdue University professor and he is one of seven children of Mr. and Mrs. John Orson Whitaker, of Van Nuys, Calif.

Everyone seems to agree that it's the warmth projected by these youngsters that makes the show go.
