Jason's Eyes

I can't get his eyes out of my mind
I look up,
And there they are
Warm,
Wide,
Brown,
Startled.
Catching my eyes from a few feet away.

His nose is indifferent.
His cheekbones I don't remember.
His hair has gotten longer.
His lips --
There was a whole other world to his lips,
But now my memory has grown cold.
And his eyes pierce mine.

I didn't say hello,
And neither did he.
We were both caught in each other's eyes,
Too startled and encompassed to speak.

And then,
I kept on walking.
