Ezekiel 16

The church from about 2000BC to about 1000BC -
the time of the tabernacle

I didn’t conceive you Ezekiel 16:1-3

Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem; Your birth and your nativity is of the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite, and your mother an Hittite" [You are NOT My child, I had nothing to do with your beginning]. [Comment]

The circumstances of your birth Ezekiel 16:4-5

"And as for your nativity, in the day you were born your navel was not cut, neither were you washed in water to supple you; you were not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. No eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion upon you; but you were cast out in the open field, to the loathing of your person, in the day that you were born [No one cared whether you lived or died]". [Comment]

I found you naked and alone Ezekiel 16:6

"And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted in your own blood [about 2000BC], I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live'; yes, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live'" [For 2000 years from Eden to Abram the Christians had been His brothers and sisters, but now they wanted to be His children, so He said OK, I’ll settle for that].

I watched you grow Ezekiel 16:7

"[Since then] I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field, and you have increased and waxed great, and you are come to excellent ornaments: your breasts are fashioned, and your hair is grown, whereas you were naked and bare".

A proposal of marriage Ezekiel 16:8

"Now when I passed by you, and looked upon you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread My skirt over you, and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore to you [I promised], and entered into a covenant with you [an agreement to be married], says the Lord GOD, and you became Mine [by the marriage service at Sinai, in Moses’ time, 500 years later. See Exodus 20 for the marriage vows]".

Anointed for the marriage Ezekiel 16:9-11

Then washed I you with water [like a baptism, 1 Corinthians 10:1-2]; yes, I thoroughly washed away your blood [your sinful origin] from you, and I anointed you with oil [the guidance of the Spirit, Nehemiah 9:19-20]. I clothed you also with embroidered work, and shod you with [shoes made of] badgers' skin, and I girded you about with fine linen, and I covered you with silk. I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck. And I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown upon your head [the sanctuary service, about 1500BC]".

Married life with you was great Ezekiel 16:13

"Thus were you decked with gold and silver; and your raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and embroidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil: and you were exceeding beautiful, and you prospered into a kingdom [about 1000BC]".

The church from about 1000BC to about 34AD -
the time of the temple

Everyone knew you were now Mine Ezekiel 16:14

"And your renown went forth among the heathen for your beauty [Solomon built the first temple]: for it was perfect through My comeliness [My righteousness], which I had put upon you, says the Lord GOD [Jesus]". [Comment]

But a problem arose Ezekiel 16:15-16

"But you trusted in your own beauty, and played the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications on every one that passed by; his it was. And of your garments you took, and decked your high places with divers colours, and played the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come [again], neither shall it be so [ever again]".

You gave away My gifts Ezekiel 16:17-18

"You have also taken your fair jewels of My gold and of My silver [My truths], which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and did commit whoredom with them [made unions with false churches], and took your embroidered garments, and covered them: and you have set My oil and My incense [prayers] before them [and their gods]".

You gave away My food Ezekiel 16:19

"My meat [food] also which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, says the Lord GOD [Consider 2 Kings 20:14-18]".

You gave away My children Ezekiel 16:20-21

"Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and these have you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Is this of your whoredoms a small matter, that you have slain My children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them? [The kingdom began to go into Babylonian captivity in 606BC]" [Comment]

You forgot how I adopted you Ezekiel 16:22

"And in all your abominations and your whoredoms you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were polluted in your blood".

Then you joined other religions Ezekiel 16:23-25

"And it came to pass after all your wickedness [when you returned from the captivity in Babylon], (woe, woe to you! says the Lord GOD;) that you have also built to you [not to Me] an eminent place [the second temple], and have made you an high place [of pride] in every street [about 500BC].

[Note that Jesus was forecasting that there would be two occasions of extreme times for the church].

You have built your high place at every head of the way, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms". [Comment]

You have joined the world as well Ezekiel 16:26

"You have also committed fornication [spiritual adultery by uniting] with the Egyptians your neighbours, great of flesh [rich in this world’s power]; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke Me to anger". [Comment]

But they both despise you Ezekiel 16:27-29

"Behold, therefore I have stretched out My hand over you, and have diminished your ordinary food, and delivered you to the will of them that hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of your lewd way [Even the other religions are ashamed of your behaviour!]. You have played the whore also with the Assyrians [a "religious" nation], because you were unsatiable; yes, you have played the harlot with them, and yet could not be satisfied. You have moreover multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan to Chaldea [to the ends of the earth]; and yet you were not satisfied therewith".

You are worse than a prostitute Ezekiel 16:30-32

"How weak is your heart [your love towards Me], says the Lord GOD, seeing you do all these things, the work of an imperious [self-willed] whorish woman [Matthew 15:19-20]; in that you build your eminent place in the head of every way, and make your high place [of pride] in every street; and have not been as an [ordinary] harlot, in that you scorn hire [payment]; but [are] as a wife that commits adultery, which takes strangers instead of her husband!"

You are the instigator of these things Ezekiel 16:33-34

"They [the customers, normally] give gifts to all whores: but you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom. And the contrary [behaviour] is in you from other women in your whoredoms, whereas none follows [or persuades] you to commit whoredoms: and in that you give a reward, and no reward is given to you, therefore you are contrary". [Comment]

The price you must pay Ezekiel 16:35-37

"Wherefore, O harlot [wife], hear the word of the LORD: Thus says the Lord GOD; Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness [lack of defence against temptation] discovered through your whoredoms with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children, which you did give to them; Behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all them that you have loved, with all them that you have hated; I will even gather them round about against you, and will discover your nakedness [or lack of protection] to them, that they may see all your nakedness [your lack of My protection]". [Comment]

I can no longer protect you Ezekiel 16:38-40

"And I will judge you, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged [by their husbands]; and I will give you blood in fury and jealousy [particularly from about 425BC to 70AD].

And I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your eminent place [the second temple], and shall break down your high places: they shall strip you also of your clothes, and shall take your fair jewels, and leave you naked and bare. They shall also bring up a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords".

This is the law (or principle) of adultery Ezekiel 16:41

"And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments upon you in the sight of many women [religions]: and I will cause you to cease from playing the harlot, and you also shall give no hire any more".

But I still love you Ezekiel 16:42-43

"So [but then] will I make My fury [or lack of protection] toward you to rest, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet [for a while], and will be no more angry. Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have fretted [turned away] Me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will recompense your way upon your head, says the Lord GOD: and you shall not commit this lewdness above all your abominations [They ceased playing the harlot but continued in other sins]".

The church from about 34AD to about the second advent-
the time of THE Church

A new group Ezekiel 16:44

"[Then] Behold, every one that uses proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, ‘As is the mother, so is her daughter’. [There had been change and a new group, the Christians had become "THE Church"].

You are your mother's daughter, that loathes her husband and her children [speaking to the church about 100AD, Revelation 2:4-5]; and you are the sister of your sisters, which [also] loathed their husbands and their children [the ultimate of female selfishness]: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite".

It’s an evil family Ezekiel 16:46

"And your elder sister is Samaria [the religious ones of the world], she and her daughters that dwell at your left hand:

and your younger sister, that dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters [the non-religious systems]".

But you are the worst Ezekiel 16:47-48

"Yet have you not [just] walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations, but, as if that were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways. As I live, says the Lord GOD [a very strong oath], Sodom your sister [the unbelieveing world] has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters".

One perished because of pride Ezekiel 16:49-50

"Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they [the non-relgious ones] were haughty, and committed abomination before Me [about 538AD]: therefore I took them away as I saw good [and allowed a false church to rule over them]".

The other isn't as bad as she is painted Ezekiel 16:51

"Neither has Samaria [the false religious systems] committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done [you make them look good]".

But you have done both evilsEzekiel 16:52

"You also, which have judged [looked down on] your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed [which are] more abominable than they: they are more righteous than you: yes, be you confounded also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters [you make them look righteous by your behaviour]".

There will be a day of reckoning Ezekiel 16:53-54

"When I shall bring again [set free] their captives, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters [from the prison house of Satan, Isaiah 42:7], then will I bring again the captivity of your captives in the midst of them [all this in the resurrection of the just, Acts 24:15]: that you may bear your own shame, and may be confounded in all that you have done. In that you are a comfort to them". [Comment]

You will all be treated the same Ezekiel 16:55-57

"When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, THEN you and your daughters shall return to your former estate. For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, before your wickedness was discovered [made public by your behaviour], as at the time of your reproach of [by] the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise you round about".

Only after the cross comes the crown Ezekiel 16:58-60

"You have [rightly] borne your lewdness and your abominations, says the LORD. For thus says the Lord GOD; I will even deal with you as you have done, which have despised the oath [My promise] in breaking the covenant [of marriage].

[You ignored Me, so I'll give you what you want and shall ignore you for a time].

Nevertheless I will [eventually] remember My covenant [the one I made] with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish [again] to you an everlasting covenant [on the same basis, the Ten Commandments of Exodus 20]".

A time of contrition Ezekiel 16:61

"Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your elder and your younger: and I will give them to you for daughters [all three will become one again], but not by your covenant [not by your idea of union].

And I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall know that I am the LORD [despite all this, I still love you to bits!!]: that you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done, says the Lord GOD [at the second coming]".
