Preface
Most of you can remember when the book Questions on Doctrine was published in 1957. The reaction to the book was quite varied. Some of our leaders claimed that it was the best book on Seventh-day Adventist doctrines ever published by the denomination. This seemed to be the dominant opinion. However, a vigorous protest to the book was raised by a small minority of ministers and laymen. Among the ministers who objected to the book was the late Elder M. L. Andreasen, who for ,many, many years had been an able theologian, administrator and teacher in nearly all phases of our church organization. Late in 1957 Elder Andreasen first published his objections to the book in some mimeographed letters called 'The Atonement" series. These were sent exclusively to ministers and workers and were not circulated among the laity at all. A little later these mimeographed letters were also made available to the laity of the church by several individuals who duplicated them.
Finally, the Hudson Printing Company of Baker, Oregon, printed at intervals a series of six booklets by Elder Andreasen entitled Letters to the Churches, which covered practically the same ground as the initial mimeographed letters. Because of the demand for this material the supply of these booklets has been exhausted. We are re-printing them in one book for economy and convenience in distribution. The information is still most timely and all of our church members should have the opportunity of availing themselves of these facts. We are not publishing them to create dissension but rather that each member of the remnant church may search the Scriptures for himself and find out what Seventh-day Adventists really do believe and teach. Unless we know what we believe from the testimony of the Scriptures we shall never stand in the last great conflict. It is our prayer that Letters to the Churches will prove to be a blessing to you. These booklets are sent out on the love offering plan rather than on a set price.
