Words without action amout to nothing. I just spent the better part of an hour writing the intro to this series (NO, I don't type that slow. I'm writing on my palmtop, particularly slow because of I keep stopping to talk or look out the window or take a photo :), and God knows how much effect it's had on you guys, you rocks (haha, no offence :). So, let me start it all off by introducing a particularly simple Sounptrack to enjoy - Han Zimmer's Black Hawk Down.
Remember Black Hawk Down? That messy, confusing blur of two hours involving a whole bunch of Somalians with guns and G.I.s with their copters? You know the one. The one which managed to be utterly confusing yet seriously cool, all at the same time.
And that, basically speaking, is what the SoundTrack is. The whole album (Can you call it that? :) is a combination of Han Zimmer's amazing music and utterly incomprehensible, yet utterly mesmerizing vocals in... uhh... Somalian, I think (Believe me! The lyrics of the tracks are in some language I SERIOUSLY cannot recogize... :)
Now, why the heck would you want an album you can't understand?! Simple. For one thing, it won't distract your studying. I mean heck, if you don't understand the language at all, there's nothing to listen for! And that, that is a serious plus factor.
Now, throw that together with Han Zimmer's characteristic dark, brooding style of music, and you have one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever. Zimmer may have been given the insane deadline of 15 days to complete the soundtrack, but he compiled an album that does what some of his other OSTs manage - to create an album that not only accompanies the movie, but stands alone as a sole, beautiful piece of work.
The verdict? So what if you can't understand what the words mean? This outstanding SoundTrack truly stands with the titans as one of Zimmer's best. Get it.
