Studying pisses me off, half the time. Especially since the year (and that intefnal new syllabus) has just begun. And without our (or my, anyway :) ever-precious supply of Buku Rujukans available as yet, half the time I end up staring blankly at 'Konsep-konsep Fizik', unable to understand why, and also unable to progress due to our utterly mindless text books filled with nothing but pictures and questions. End result? I fall asleep on my books, wake up 2 hours later and realize the page is stuck to my face. :)
So in an attempt to stop myself from incessantly stuck to the desk (hey, don't get me wrong, it's not that I love studying that much - that time wasted just can be used for other stuff, like... never mind, go figure :), I've reverted to blasting music as I study. And amazingly enough, it keeps me awake (then again, The Vines screaming their need to get free generally does that to someone :).
But think about it. Advantages as music like that may bring, there are some serious drawbacks (which I have, by now, experienced first hand :). Take for instance the fact that I listen to songs, very strongly for the lyrics. Not as in 'I have to listen to meaningful music', but as in 'heck, so what if Missy Elliot is rapping bout putting her thang down, flip it and reverse it, I still wanna make out what she's saying'. So when I end up listening to stuff while studying, it results in me being half-distracted, unable to concentrate on the books.
So my second alternative becomes listening to classical. But that contradicts the whole purpose of my quest for music doesn't it? You have no idea how fast Holst's Four Seasons can put you to sleep.
So after digging thru genre after genre of (wordless, not-so-slow :) music, and after filtering out stuff (I must prevent myself from using 'crap'... Some people might be offended :) like Jazz, I finally came across Movie Soundtracks. Not the type like The Matrix's OST (Original SoundTrack, that is), featuring Marilyn Manson screaming that Rock is Dead, but more like The Matrix's Movie Score (sorry, no acronym :), a whole CD of orchestral stuff (Haha, the legacy of a Matrix freak).
So welcome to my world of cool movie soundtracks, something to keep you awake at the study table.
Welcome to the series of MoodMusic.
