What a fun season for 2008/2009! I imprinted my first goshawk and really enjoyed it. Things were great and we killed over 100 head easily before October. I went on a mission trip to Mexico and when I came back my sweet little gos was pretty wild. I brought his weight back down to no avail. Another falconer is flying him now and was able to overcome the fear. I think he went through dispersal when I fed him up for the mission trip since he was raised per the recipe and that represses that dispersal instinct. Tex caught lots of birds in the field from sparrows up to quail and pheasants. He caught several rabbits and was really getting great at them before I went to Mexico.
I caught some ducks with a gyr/peregrine that a friend gave me, but I eventually passed him on and focused on my passage prairie falcon. She was definitely a challenge, but we did manage to bring a few head of game to the bag. She skied out several times, but I didn't do a great job of keeping her focus. I may not have ever gotten her weight quite low enough. I am looking forward to seeing what she does after the molt.
