WVIAC Controls Five of Ten Spots on Women's Hoops All-Region Squad

(SHIPPENSBURG, PA)---Three WVIAC players and two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference players make up the Daktronics Division II Women's Basketball Team from the East Region. The balloting was conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Safiyyah Bashir of Millersville (York, PA), Shana Green of West Virginia Wesleyan (Pittsburgh, PA), Jaana Kotova of West Liberty State (Tallinn, Estonia), Becky Siemback of Slippery Rock (Johnstown, PA), and Jennifer Wilson of Fairmont State (Fairmont, WV) comprise the first team.

Bashir was a second team All-Region pick on last year's Daktronics team.

Green earned first team All-WVIAC honors this season. The senior was third in scoring and rebounding in the conference with averages of 18.5 and 10.6 respectively. Her field goal percentage of 55.9 percent was fourth in the WVIAC as her Bobcat squad finished 14-13.

Kotova won the WVIAC Player of the Year. The tallest player in the nation at 6-11, Kotova averaged 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. She leads the nation in blocked shots with 5.3 per game and is eighth in the nation and leads the conference in shooting percentage. Her Hilltopper team finished 25-5 and won the WVIAC regular season and tournament championships.

Wilson was the leading scorer in the WVIAC this year with an average of 21.9 points per game. She was also fourth in rebounding in the league. Nationally, she is third in the Division II scoring ranks.

Named to the Daktronics All-East Region second team were Twania Bennett (Salem International), Adrianne Harlow (West Liberty State), Nikki Herron (Belmont Abbey), Megan LaBuda (Bloomsburg), and Kim Vay (Edinboro).

The first team selections will be placed on the national All-American ballot.
