Allen George Crouse, 85 a resident of Westerville for the past 40 years, died at his home, 48 W. College Ave., Saturday morning following a long illness. He had been in failing health nearly six years.
Services were conducted at the residence Monday at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. W. L. Steffens, pastor of the Methodist Church, and Rev. Carl Alexander, Norwood, a nephew of Mrs. Crouse, officiating. Burial was made in Otterbein Mausoleum in charge of G. W. Stockdale & Son.
Mr. Crouse is survived by his wife, Mrs. Inez Alexander Crouse; one daughter, Mrs. P. H. Kilbourn, Dayton; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Glenn Asire, Fostoria, died 28 years ago.
Mr. Crouse, who would have been 86 in April, was born at Flat Rock, Seneca County. He graduated from Otterbein College in 1875 after which he began teaching school. He served as superintendent of schools at North Baltimore Findlay, Wauseon and Marion. He had also been in charge of the science department at Fostoria Academy for three years.
After serving the Marion schools for five years, he retired in 1890 to enter the business field. He became associated with several firms and a few years later became the first salesman for the Seagrave Corp. of Columbus. He remained with this firm for 32 years until his retirement in 1929.
Mr. Crouse was active in church work all his life, often holding positions of responsibility in the church. He was also keenly interested in the civic advancement of Westerville and served as a councilman for a number of years.
Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Crouse celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 26, 1937.
