Rev. Samuel W. Keister, for more than 50 years a minister in the United Brethren denomination, died on Sunday at his West College Avenue home following a heart attach. He was 78 years old.
Funeral service were held in the United Brethren church Wednesday afternoon and the body was interred in the mausoleum in Otterbein Cemetery under the direction of Cook & Spears, Columbus funeral directors.
Rev. Keister was graduated from Otterbein College in 1877 and immediately entered the ministry. His services to the denomination endured for 52 years. Even though in advanced age, he continued until his death as supply pastor at the local church.
Rev. Keister at one time served as superintendent of the Miami and Allegheny conferences of the denomination. He also was for a time associated with the Anti-Saloon League.
Surviving Dr. Keister are his wife Mrs. Mary Keister, a son, Albert, of Greensboro, N.C. and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Bailey and Mrs. Ida Lynd, both of Germantown
