Local Man Is Killed and
Yarnell Injured in
Truck Accident
--------
Funeral services will be held in the Methodist Episcopal church, Thursday afternoon, for Burton H. Koons, for many years a resident of Westerville and who, on the death of his wife, Mrs. Alta Koons in January, moved to Columbus where he has since made his home. Rev. R. T. Stimmel conducted the services for Mr. Koons, who was killed Monday evening in an automobile accident near Pittsburgh, Pa. Burial was made in the mausoleum in Otterbein Cemetery by G. W. Stockdale & Son.
The deceased, who was in the trucking business, was making a trial trip from Columbus to Pittsburgh when the fatal accident occurred. Mr. Koons and Battick M. Yarnell, 71 North Vine Street, were on the outskirts of the city when the truck left the road, struck a blinker light and then crashed into a barn. A son, Arthur, who also was in Pittsburgh at the time, was notified immediately and arrived at the scene of the crash in 20 minutes. He found his father dead and Yarnell with a broken left shoulder and lacerations of face and body. Death is thought to have been almost instantaneous as the barn collapsed on the truck and pieces of timber struck Mr. Koons in the forehead.
Mr. Koons and Yarnell left Westerville Sunday night and were scheduled to interview officials of a Pittsburgh firm in regard to a contract for hauling between Columbus and that city.
It was believed the vehicle was crowded from the highway or that Koons, who was driving, became confused by the bright lights of an approaching car and drove off the road.
Yarnell was taken to Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, and reports Wednesday said that he was recovering rapidly. The body was received here Wednesday morning.
Koons is survived by a son, Arthur F. Koons; four brothers, a sister, his father, Henry Koons, and two grandchildren. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Eagles and Grange.
