Dr. Noah E. Cornetet, aged 64, Professor of Greek at Otterbein College and for the last thirty years a resident of Westerville died at his home, 99 West Park street, at one o'clock Friday morning due to a heart attack. Dr. Cornetet had been in ill health for more than two years but continued to meet his classes daily.
Born at Mowrystown, Ohio June 2, 1867, Dr. Cornetet received his early education there and then chose Otterbein as the scene of his future studies. Dr. Cornetet received three degrees from Otterbein College. He graduated in 1896 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, in 1902 he received his M. A. degree and in 1921 climaxed his work with a Litt. D. degree, all from Otterbein.
Ordained a minister in the United Brethren In Christ church, Dr. Cornetet served as pastor in four Ohio cities as well as serving as pastor and Professor of Greek at Avolon College at Trenton, Mo. He was called to Otterbein in 1901 and served as Professor of Greek from that time until his death. He was also Dean of Otterbein during the years from 1921 to 1930.
Dr. Cornetet was secretary of the Ohio State Association School Board, was ex-president of the Westerville Board of which he was a member for eleven years, was a member of the Classical Association of the Mid-West and South, was a member of the Ohio State Classical Association, and was a member of the Ohio School Master's Club. Dr. Cornetet was a member of Pi Gamma Mu, national honorary educational fraternity.
Although being best known as a pastor and educator, Dr. Cornetet was also a well known author. His best known work being, "Prayer, a Means of Spiritual Growth", which appeared in 1904.
Funeral services were held at the U. B. Church Monday morning. Burial was made in Otterbein Cemetery in charge of Earl F. Keyes. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Cornetet; three sons, Dwight, Wendell and Russell and two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Miller and Miss Grace Cornetet.
At the services Rev. J. Stuart Innerst told about Dr. Cornetet's life; Dr. T. J. Sanders said the prayer; Dr. H. H. Ruswell read the scripture and a resolution passed by the Wagner Memorial Sunday School class; Dr. S. F. Daugherty of Dayton, former pastor here and Dr. W. G. Clippinger also spoke.
