A practicing physician for 45 years, Dr. Charlie Wright Stoughton, age 73, died at his home, 29 West College avenue, Saturday morning, following an illness of three years. With the exception of seven years, Dr. Stoughton had made his home in Westerville since 1881, when his parents moved here. After his graduation from Ohio Medical University, Columbus, in 1901, Dr. Stoughton practiced medicine, a year in Homer and six years in Croton, Ohio. In 1908, he returned to Westerville and began a long and useful career in this community. The present residence and office was built by him in 1919.
Dr. Stoughton attended the Westerville public schools, Martin Boehm Academy and Otterbein college. He was a member of the baseball team in college and was always an ardent booster for the Varsity "O". He held membership in the United Brethren church, Blendon Lodge of which he was a past… (section illegible)…Lions Club, Zabud Council and Horeb Chapter. During World War I, he was contract surgeon for Otterbein College.
Dr. Millard J. Miller and Rev. J. Neely Boyer conducted the funeral services at 2 p. m., Monday at the residence with entombment in the Otterbein Mausoleum, by Fichner Funeral Home. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Estella Jordan Stoughton, and a son, Herbert A. Stoughton of New Philadelphia. One son, Charlie Wright died in infancy.
