Another of Westerville's pioneer business men, C. H. Patrick, passed away Saturday afternoon with no apparent warning. Although Mr. Patrick had not been in the best of health it was not thought that his condition was any worse than in months past. In fact during the past few months he had seemed to be in excellent spirits and feeling pretty good. He had just finished a brief conversation with his wife when death came with almost imperceptible quietness. Before medical aid could be obtained he had taken his final breath. Death was ascribed to an asthmetic condition with which he has been afflicted for many years.

A Business Leader

Mr. Patrick was recognized by citizens of Westerville as one of the shrewdest of business men and for that reason his willingness to serve on the school board at the time the erection of the new high school building was being considered was accepted by the citizens and he became president of the Board of Education, piloting the Board over a critical period and coming through with an admirable record. Some 35 years ago he moved to Westerville from Africa where he had moved from near Chillicothe where he was born. He engaged in the hardware business until three years ago when he retired and sold the business to N. E. Wilkin and Sons, Mr. Wilkin having been a former partner.

Was a Lodge Man

Interested in lodge work Mr. Patrick had affilitated himself with three local orders, the Mason, Odd Fellows, and Knights of Pythias. He was serving his 27th year as treasurer of the Odd Fellows lodge. His sound judgment had played a prominent role in financing the addition to the Methodist church where he was a member of the Official Board.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, William, Albert and Merrill; two daughters, Ruth and Edith, and a twin sister, Mrs. Ella Mathews. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the residence, Rev. G. H. Heizer presiding. An I. O. O. F. service was held at the cemetery. E. W. Alkire, N. E. Wilkin, C. L. Stoughton, C. E. Brundage, W. B. Johnston and H. B. Sowers were pallbearers. All business houses were closed during the services. Interment was made in the Worthington mausoleum awaiting completion of the Westerville mausoleum. Keyes & Sammons had charge of the funeral.
