Rites for Miss Baker
Were Held Saturday
Funeral services for Miss Verna R. Baker, age 67, who died early Thursday morning at her home, 93 West College avenue, after a lingering illness, were conducted at 3 p. m., Saturday at the residence. The Rev. J. Neely Boyer was in charge of the services. Appropriate music was given by Miss Ruth Smith, soprano, and Miss Frances Harris, pianist.
Miss Baker, a graduate of Otterbein college in the class of 1898, was formerly employed as a bookkeeper, having been the private secretary for Tom Dempsey, Jersey Cattle Salesman, for a number of years prior to her retirement from active work.
Surviving are two sisters, Miss Lula M. Baker, at home and Mrs. Anna B. Newton of Charleston, W. Va.; a brother Mr. Walter Baker of Los Angeles, Calif.; three nieces, among whom is Mrs. Katherine Newton Martin, wife of Dr. Donald Martin of Cleveland; two nephews, among whom is Mr. Edward Newton, husband of the former Dorothy Messmer, of Charleston.
Burial was in Otterbein Mausoleum by Kenneth R. Fichner.
