For Past Ten Years

Rev. Charles Henry Sowers, age 85, who for the past ten years had been deprived of his eyesight, died early Monday morning at this home here after being confined to his room for the past two years. For twenty years he was a Methodist preacher serving pastorates at Brownsville, Columbus, New Straitsville, McArthur, Rushville and Bainbridge.
A native of Roseville, Ohio, he was ordained into the Methodist ministry following his graduation from Ohio Wesleyan university in 1886 in the class with Dr. R. H. Walker, professor emeritus of religion of Ohio Wesleyan. From 1908 until 1912, when he came to Westerville, he was a super numeray minister, while regaining his health, and acted as cashier of the Rushville Bank. In February of 1912 he was put in charge of contributions for the Anti-Saloon League which position he held for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Kemper Sowers, and a sister, Mrs. Mary E. Myers of Roseville. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., in the Methodist church by Rev. Ralph E. Simester, assisted by Rev. W. L. Steffens, Rev. A. G. Shatzman and Dr. R. H. Walker.
Burial was in the Otterbein Mausoleum by K. R. Fichner.
At the advanced age of 75 he learned the Braille system and spent hours at his typewriter keeping up a correspondence with his old friends as well as new ones he had made among those suffering from the same handicap.
