Dr. William Johnston Zuck, 76, former head of the English department of Otterbein College and a retired Presbyterian minister at Columbus, died Wednesday in Grant Hospital following a short illness. He resided at 1448 Neil avenue.
Dr. Zuck formerly was pastor of St. Clair Avenue and Second Avenue Presbyterian Churches. He came to Columbus in 1911. He retired three years ago. He was also chairman of the supply and vacancy committee of the Columbus Presbytery.
Dr. Zuck was head of the English department at Otterbein from 1884 to 1903 and also was treasurer of the college, of which he was a graduate. He left college to serve as pastor at Anaville, Pa., for five years.
He directed work of the Anti-Saloon League in northwestern Pennsylvania from 1908 to 1911.
He is survived by his widow Mrs. Jessie M. Zuck; two sons, Emerson S., Philadelphia; and Alfred T. Zuck, at home, and a daughter, Miss Alice Zuck, East Cleveland.
Services were held Friday at the Denton Donaldson Funeral home. Burial was made in Otterbein Mausoleum. Prof. J. P. West and Dr. Charles Snavely were among the pallbearers.
