OTTERBEIN CEMETERY
MAUSOLEUM

In 1923, responding to a growing demand for burial plots within the City of Westerville, the Otterbein Cemetery Association agreed to allocate $120,000 for the construction of a mausoleum at the south end of Otterbein Cemetery. The Columbus Mausoleum Company was retained to build this structure, with E.E. Redman acting as their representative.

The original plans called for a building measuring 72 by 60 feet, housing 400 crypts. During construction plans were revised and the finished structure measured 56 by 82 feet, having 290 crypts. The exterior was constructed of Bedford Stone, with Vermont marble used for the interior. The seven cathedral-styled windows were to provide interior lighting and contained symbols of the seven major world religions.

To date, the Otterbein Mausolem is the final resting place of 286 former residents.
