Pirates Cave Bar & Grill
|
Pirates Cave Bar & Restaurant, located in Negril on Jamaica's Westend, is so much more than just a Bar & Restaurant. This is a wonderful spot in Jamaica to spend an afternoon and evening. From jumping off of the
cliffs and snorkeling during the day, to relaxing at a cliff side
table for a lobster dinner (the specialty of the house) and enjoying a cool
drink as the sun sets in it's most amazing way from this location.
HISTORY
Two famous movies were filmed on property. In the 1950's the Jules
Verne classic "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" was filmed in the cave. In
the 1970's the Steve McQueen classic "Papillon" was filmed on the
cliffs where the star actor jumped off to make his escape from Devil's
Island.
The "Pirates of The Caribbean" were encouraged by the British Governors
in 1655 to base themselves in Port Royal, Jamaica. The most famous
buccaneer of them all was Sir Henry Morgan. He was Lieutenant Governor
of Jamaica in the 1680's.
The cave on property and the cave's around Westend, Negril made
excellent hiding places for pirates and their treasure.
Another famous pirate and his wenches, "Calico Jack", Ann Bonny, and
Mary Reid were captured in Bloody Bay, Negril by Royal Navy, taken to
Kingston where Calico Jack Rackham and his crew were hanged. Don't worry,
this won't happen to you.
