Caught up in the LimeLight

Seeing as how this page is getting inserted much later than the others were, and seeing as how it is much later in the story, lemme fill in a lotta blanks on just how many lime-light occasions I have had!

Yes, I am still doing this. And yes, it is because in some ways I find it quite fun. I have run the gambit of doing everything from getting ahold of school support groups to getting phone numbers for gender counselors in the process of preparing to 'sort some of this out', but ended up not participating in any as I think it all comes down to attention - and afterall, that is what being caught up in the limelight is all about isn't it?

After going to the local hang-out and astonishing a few friends, I did not quite feel content yet with putting everything away. I looked good dammit, and without playing recently in the band(s) I had been prone to perform with time-and-again, I liked the attention my new look brought me. Both from the enlightened and the unsuspecting.

I wanted to try at least once or twice to go again to the Wild Goose (no closed) to try to chase down some photo's of my first night out and to perhaps run into some of the other first timers I had met there. I did manage to meet a few in their regular attire, but was unable to bump into "Anita Mann" as I had first hoped.

On the second such trip, just as I was preparing to leave after having one of the better looking first timer's fawn all over me about how he wanted to 'do my make-up', I saw someone I recognized. It was an individual whom I had known for some time, but had not seen the last few years. I knew him from my first years with truly developing my musical talents.

Knowing that I was one to brag about my ability to do well in almost any style of music, his 'taunting' played a big part in my furthering my adventures with numerous visits to 'amateur night' at Granny's Place (now also closed) in Belleville, MI. At Granny's, I sat in but once to date in the contest, but as is usually the case for such contests, it turned into more of a "popularity contest" in that it was judged by audience response. The contest was open to more than just t*'s and a local - well known - lesbian took the prize that night. (damn those lesbians can be loud *grin) However, as a new comer, the shouts that I received were quite reassuring but just a bit short of being the loudest.

Many of the pics from that first night formerly could be seen in my Sights section ('d' series) as well as some RealAudio samples of the songs that I sang that night in my Sounds area. In fact, the one picture has become one of my favorites and has been used to help promote the web site after some modification with photoshop to enhance the limelight effect with a few spot lights and lens flares. With any luck, I might get this page re-designed enough to be able to get a few of the pics back up.

All other appearances at Granny's, two additional performances in all, have been as a result of that first night. I had been asked to sit in as a special guest once with Bobbi Bradley in her Saturday night show, and managed to finaggle my way into the Christmas show that Sybil was hosting just before the Holidays. I plan another trip in male 'costume' soon for another talent night where I play to pantomime to the Dean Johnson song found on my Sounds page! I think it should be a guaranteed winner, especially when I can get the Dean & the Weenies look down pat!

Other adventures have included trips in full attire to local stores such as Meijer's (late at night) and a few other places including the Aut` Bar and GiGi's (to meet Lisa_D once and for all). I made a few new friends along the way and did a fair share of shopping at a number of local shops. Mostly second hand shops such as St. Vincent De Paul, the Thrift Store, Rag-O-Rama and Value Village. And of course many late night trips to Meijer for one thing or another.

I even went back to the Nectarine one evening, and played the wall flower hoping to perhaps have SOMEONE talk to me (noone did). At least it was a far sight better than being on stage that first night for the "best drag" and having to see a little to much t* butt-crack for this straight guy to handle, from one of the winners who was all dolled up in leather and a few chains - stress on few. I bet the boys in the audience WISHED they coulda had the view of the rear the rest of us contestants got from the stage side.

I will give some credit though to one of the contestants who had some ingenuity in coming up with a I dream of Jeannie costume, complete with the S.O. done up in military dress. There was another T* there too that was conservatively dressed in the same fashion I was, and if I had not seen 'her' in the contest, I would not have had any idea of the true gender. In fact, the conservative looks and everyday casual attire I have begun to favor have gotten me some of the best compliments as they have the tendancy to throw off more people due to the incospicuousnous of them. (is that a word?)
