As of July 1, the year goes from being less than half over to more than half over. The summer solstice is a little more than a week ago. More than half of my year as Chair of Tri-Ess New England is over. And in less than two weeks, I turn a half-century old. Yep, you heard it, the big 5-O. Honestly, turning 50 does not feel traumatic. I still feel like a kid (and according to many still act like a child). I don't perceive myself the way I perceived my parents when they were 50. But the turning of this page has made me just a bit introspective. My father only survived to just past age 51 and while I am indisputably healthier than he was, it still hasn't escaped my attention. The Roaring Twenties were closer in time to when I was growing up than the Sixties are to 2002. As I enter my second half-century, I enter it understanding a lot more about myself than in the first half. I find that despite my best efforts, I have grown up as I have grown older. More important, from the perspective of this forum, I understand much more about who and what I am. Recognizing and acknowledging the part of me that is Marcia has made me better balanced than I was for a long time. It hasn't always been a comfortable or easy change, especially where my family is concerned. But recognizing that this is all part of the essential ME have made a big difference. In a sense, every moment is a new turning point. Zen teaches that we should live in the everlasting now. Each things we see, thing, do, experience changes the direction that we are heading even though we perceive this process as linear. When we view it with the perspective of hindsight, we see where there were so many turning points. For better or for worse, this never-ending process of reinvention is an occupational hazard of waking up each morning. I, for one, intend making the next fifty years better than the first fifty. Marcia Highlights of the Last Meeting The meeting was called to order at 4:00PM on Saturday, June 8, 2002. Everyone in the circle introduced themselves. Gerri spoke of his search to find a new meeting location. He had run into a lot of difficulty finding somewhere because many church locations renovate during the summer months. Gerri will continue to seek a meeting place closer to Salem for the future. S.P.I.C.E. planning continues. Joy made it clear that HELP is needed for SPICE and the help is needed NOW! Everyone was updated about what was happening with DeeDee. Marcia reminded everybody about the summer picnic at Dave and Michele's. Marcia also reminded all present that the newsletter needs their participation and submissions. The Pot Luck was great with lots of food. The group adjourned and several members went on to party at Friend's Landing. Tri Ess N.E. Monthly Meeting Saturday, July13, 2002 The doors should be unlocked and access to the church hall available at 3:00PM. There are rest rooms available in which to change. The Executive Committee meeting will start promptly at 3:30PM. (Unless, of course, we get stuck in traffic somewhere between here and there.) The general membership meeting will begin around 4:00PM. This month dinner will be Pizza. We are asking members to contribute to the till, with a suggested donation of $5. Dinner will be followed by clean up. The meeting will be over by 8:00PM. Joy's Rack We still need volunteers to help with planning and execution for this event. Gil Fairfax, Cheryl Seymour as well as Mark and I will review the contract with the hotel next week at SPICE X. Following discussion at the last meeting it was determined that next year's S.P.I.C.E. hot topic will be 'Boundaries'. Does anyone have any ideas for presenters? The registration form for S.P.I.C.E. XI will be included in this year's S.P.I.C.E. package and an advance copy is included in this newsletter. Copies of the flyer will be available at our August meeting. Joy S.P.I.C.E.
