CHAIRING MY THOUGHTS
The Clock is Ticking
A little while ago, I wrote about the passage of time and how the year was more than half over. More time has passed since then and, although it seems hard to believe, S.P.I.C.E. 2003, "A Yankee Doodle Dandy of a SP.I.C.E.," hosted by Tri-Ess New England is now less than a year away.
S.P.I.C.E. 2002 in Richmond was a tremendous success and any rumors of its demise were greatly exaggerated. Cheryl did a fabulous job pulling it all together and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. At dinner on Saturday night, the "official" SPICE spices were tossed from Virginia to New England. (Yes, I caught it. No embarrassing New England by committing an error!) Since returning home, Joy and Cheryl have already started working out the details and coordinating the efforts of S.P.I.C.E. and TSNE.
We'll be bringing the brochure that Joy designed and national had printed on beautiful glossy paper to the August meeting for everyone to see. I'm seeing notes on ideas that Joy and Sara have for the 2003 conference all over the house. Whenever they think of something it gets written down (and some even get gathered together and put into Joy's S.P.I.C.E. file drawer!). And that reminds me, if you've got an idea, please let Joy know. Email, snail mail, telephone, telegraph, semaphore, signal flags...doesn't matter how, but please let her know.
Among the things we'd like to get going immediately is fund-raising for the chapter. Would you like to see raffles at each meeting? If so, what ideas for raffles would you like? (I could get the newsletter editor's attention by saying that we will raffle off a cheesecake at the next meeting....)
Ladies, (no, I'm talking to the genetic women right now), what would you like to know about S.P.I.C.E.? What would you like to see at S.P.I.C.E.? We have a number of TSNE ladies who have been to S.P.I.C.E. (Joy, three times, Sara, twice, Val and Jean, once each). They'll be happy to share their experiences but most important, they'd like to hear what you have to say.
Cheryl Seymour, Director of the Family Support (a/k/a Madame SPICE) is planning to attend our September meeting. In case you didn't know, Cheryl has been made an honorary member of our chapter and is on our Yahoo Group. One thing to remember when you meet Cheryl is that if you say certain funny things, she turns REAL red. Your humble chairperson holds (to the best of my knowledge) the record for saying something that made her the reddest she's ever been. Kind of made me warm and fuzzy to do it. (And, yes, if you're wondering, ask me. I'll be happy to share the story.)
As you can see, S.P.I.C.E. is not only an important conference from the point of view of what it can do to help cross-dressers and their families, it is a lot of fun. Joy, Sara and I leant a hand in Richmond and it made it a great deal of fun for us. It's going to be a lot of work, no question. But I firmly believe, we can all have a wonderfully good time planning and putting on S.P.I.C.E. 2003.
And one final thing! (Drum roll, please!) We have an official mascot for "A Yankee Doodle Dandy of a S.P.I.C.E." He, too, will be at the next meeting to perform his signature song. Yes, folks, a singing, dancing hamster in a red, white and blue top hat. Honest. We need an official name for said mascot and the prize will be another five free tickets to a 50/50 raffle at a future meeting. So Name That Hamster! Is the name of the game.

Tri Ess N.E. Monthly Meeting
Saturday, August 10, 2002
The doors should be unlocked and access to the church hall available at 3:00PM. There are rest rooms available in which to change.
The Executive Committee meeting will start promptly at 3:30PM. (Unless, of course, we get stuck in traffic somewhere between here and there.) The general membership meeting will begin around 4:00PM.
This month's dinner is a mystery...watch for information on the e-group.
Dinner will be followed by clean up. The meeting will be over by 8:00PM.
