SRU: Wasted Potential

by Troy

The old man was browsing his inventory when the

young man ran in. He didn't even bother looking up until the

youth threatened him. "Why, Steven?" asked the old man

gently, "why did you waste your potential."

The kid looked at him wondering what he was

saying. "You know," said the wizard, "you were destined

for greatness but you were hampered by one thing, a lust

for excitement." The old man sighed. He knew that Steven

had just randomly run into this store looking to take a few

bucks and make a run for it. He simply could not let this

happen.

"Well, Steven, what are you going to do?" asked

the old man, "You can't run forever."

Steven replied,"Yes I can, you old fool, now give

me some money so I can leave." as he waved his gun.

The wizard smiled inwardly knowing that the

gun wasn't loaded but he wouldn't let this young lad know

that. He must learn his lesson.

"Steven, your original destiny had you getting

it all, fame friends fortune. "You had a family that loves you

but you are willing to throw it away because of a few bad

breaks."

"Quit the lecture, old man, I want out of here now.

Are you going to give me the money or am I going to have

to shoot you."

The old man just gave him a look. "What would

that do, Steven, it would just make your problems worse,

But I can help you."

"What can you do for me."

"I'll give you a second chance. A new life to take

place of this one. One where you might make the right choice

this time."

"I'm not sure I can trust you but maybe you're right.

I don't want to run anymore. I just want to be safe."

"Safety you want, it's safety you'll get."

Moments later, Steven awoke. He felt so tiny, so

helpless. All of the sudden a giant, no wait an adult picked

him up. He must be a baby he realized.

"That's okay, honey," said the woman, "Mama will

make it all right. You just go to sleep."

Using all his strength he looked down at his pink

sleeper and thought that if he was going to be changed it

might as well be completely as he fell asleep in his new

mother's arms.

	The End
