I devote this page, with love, to Cyndi.

This fan page is for information on the most talented female artist of our century, Cyndi Lauper. I warn you, this page is a blatant plug for Cyndi Lauper, who deserves more than a Grammy and an Emmy for her vast talents, as a singer and an actress. For those of you who love Cyndi, good, you are among the enlightened crowd. For those of you who don't, I feel sorry for you. Go out and buy her music immediately and discover for yourself how vastly talented she is. Cyndi Lauper was born June 20th. 1953. That makes her a Gemini/Cancer, a fact that is reflected in the eclectic, haunting nature of her music. Her first album was She's So Unusual, which was a HUGE success. She was the first female artist to have 4 top 10 hits on a debut album. Her single, Time After Time hit #1 and was (and still is) a beautiful, haunting ballad. This song was re-made in the 90's by Inoj, but the original is much better, in my opinion.

Her second album, True Colors (which she referrred to on the radio once as her third album, saying she hadn't finished her second one yet - that's Cyndi for you), produced the beautiful, lyrical and somewhat sad True Colors, her second number 1 hit. This song was remade by Phil Collins in the 90's. I was fortunate enough to catch him performing it live, and afterwards, Cyndi herself was on the phone, saying she liked it! Phil seemed a little taken aback being compared to the original artist. She requested a song from him. That shows that her songs have staying power, and that someone thought it good enough to remake today.

Her own first hit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was remade by Cyndi Lauper herself as Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun) and it soared all the way to #4 in England, and made the soundtrack of To Wong Foo, a funny drag queen movie. The video to Hey Now stars all kinds of drag queens looking fabulous with Cyndi, sporting yellow hair. It's kind of neat that she herself redid the song, and that it got some attention here and overseas.

Cyndi's talent has remained constant to the present day. Her later albums in the 1990's, including her greatest hits album Twelve Deadly Cyns- and Then Some demonstrate her ongoing musical genius. You may not know that Cyndi Lauper has a huge gay following, but she does. We have loved her since day one. Her last album for Sony (who should be spanked for not promoting her enough) was her Christmas Album (not including the special release Wanna Have Fun - which has 10 songs on it)

Her albums are listed below (with the 'snapshot size' album covers of the ones I could find to show here):

She's So Unusual

True Colors

A Night to Remember

Hat Full of Stars

12 Deadly Cyns...And Then Some

Sisters of Avalon

Merry Christmas - Have a Nice Life

in my opinion, her 10 best songs are:

Water's Edge -

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

All Through the Night

Time After Time

True Colors

Change of Heart

Heading for the Moon

A Night to Remember

You Don't Know

Calm Inside the Storm

Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)

Cyndi has had a large following in Europe since the earliest days of her career. Her beautiful song, "The World is Stone," was a top hit in France, though it was never released in the US as a single. For the chart positions of her songs worldwide, consult the charts on the official Cyndi Lauper website.

But I am sure she will release more lovely songs on her upcoming album. She performed Water's Edge on the wonderful Girls with Guitars benefit concert on Lifetime, which was for breast cancer. Ann Wilson of Heart sang the last part of the song with her, and she looked great with a hairstyle reminiscent of her look from 1989, her Night to Remember album days. She is starring in an independent movie with Christopher Walken called the Opportunist, which was shown here locally for a while. I will have to get it on video, since the theatre only shows indie films for a short period of time. The new album with "Higher Plane", "Restless Heart", the haunting ballad Water's Edge and more should be out sometime in early 2001, and we are all eagerly awaiting it's release. If you get a date on the release of any dance singles, CD Maxi Singles, or 12 inch lps from it, or imports, let me know via e-mail and I will post the information here.

She toured with the terrific Tina Turner in 1997, and in 1999 she finished a tour with the very talented (and lovely) Cher, who has been friends with her for many years. She kicked off her tour in Phoenix, where her sister, Ellen, lives. Cyndi Lauper is still huge in Europe, and, as I said before, she has a loyal, passionate gay following in America, myself included. Her songs still get a lot of play in gay clubs, and do well on the dance charts. She did a remake of Disco Inferno for the Night at the Roxbury Soundtrack, which got nominated for a Grammy. It is a crime that Americans have not run screaming to the stores to buy all her albums as much as they did in the 1980's. But Cyndi Lauper is still going strong, folks. Her day is far from over. Chart placement isn't everything.

Cyndi is still working on a new album, and has released, as a dance single only to clubs, a remix of "Higher Plane", which is really good. The new album, which may be out in April, has a lot of dance music. My favorite song off of it, which she performed lived with Anne Wilson of heart, is Water's Edge, which brings tears to my eyes. It is as haunting and lovely as Time After Time, which is a true classic in every sense of the word.

There is now an entire Cyndi Lauper webring (of which this page is a part - navigate the ring on the links below), and Cyndi Lauper has also created her own web-page, the House of Cyn

In 1997, after Cyndi toured her new album, Sisters of Avalon, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother, and on November 16th, 1997, gave birth to her darling son, Declyn. Here she is with her precious baby. It is good that she had the time to become a mom and still pursue her singing career and share her lovely music with the world. She toured with Tina Turner throughout most of her pregnancy, which just goes to show what a determined woman can do. It's true what they say, Every Mother is a Working Woman!
