(Written by Tommy for Beltane, 1998)
Tommy: I’m here to ask you in front of these people if you will be my
godmother.
JR: What does that mean to you?
Tommy: Well, as I grow, will you help teach me what you know, about the God and the Goddess and all our world?
JR: I can do that.
Tommy: Will you make sure I can learn, even if my Mama can’t teach me or take me somewhere?
JR: I can do that.
Tommy: Will you be a part of my family, the family I choose as I grow?
JR: I can do that.
Tommy: Will you help me when I need help, and ask me to help when I can help you?
JR: I can do that.
Tommy: Will you spend time with me and remember my birthday, and take me to celebrations like this one?
JR: I can do that.
Tommy: And for our whole lives, will you love me?
JR: I can do that.
Tommy: That’s what a godmother means to me. Will you be my godmother?
JR: I will be your godmother, Tommy.
Tommy: Then I will be your godson, J-----. I love you.
