10 tips for successful public speaking

Links

Many people would rather die than give a speech. According to some surveys, fear of public speaking outranks the fear of death by a two-to-one margin!

Good communications skills are important to our professional success and quality of life. In a competitive job market, those with strong communication skills have an advantage over those who struggle to deliver a clear thought. In our personal lives, the ability to effectively communicate builds confidence and improves the quality of our lives.

At West Los Angeles Toastmasters, we learn by doing. Every Wednesday we practice preparing and delivering speeches; giving constructive evaluations of members' speeches; and effectively thinking and speaking on our feet. Our mission is to promote a supportive learning environment for our members.

Our membership is comprised of a diverse mix of backgrounds, ages, and professions. Members are students, retirees, and entrepreneurs, with some having recently joined the club while others have been members for several years. What we all have in common is a desire to improve our communication skills and a mutual respect among our members.

We invite you to visit us at our next Wednesday night meeting. We'll make you feel welcome.
