Gabrielle faces unimagined loss when a poisoned dart from an unknown source leaves Xena paralyzed and near death. Even from her bed, Xena directs the defense of a village against the warlord Talmadeus, aided by Gabrielle's masquerade as the warrior princess and by the carbonated water Salmoneus has been peddling as "Lord Seltzer", which the townspeople use to fire cork darts. But after killing two assassins in a last burst of will, Xena collapses and appears lifeless, leaving Gabrielle to mourn-and to stay in the village leading its desperate defenses, "for the greater good". Gabrielle holds off Talmadeus' soldiers with her staff to defend Xena's body, but it outmatched until Xena, her strength renewed, proves it will take more than one dart to kill a warrior princess. |
