chapter two

...two months later...

I hadn't been back to Sligo since that day, and so was wondering what I was doing there. I hadn't really thought about why I was there, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Anyway, I was sitting on a park bench, when I suddenly saw someone's feet appear before me. I looked up to see Shane standing before me. "Caitlin, where have you been? I've been so worried about you, you know." "Well thanks for the sympathy." I reply sarcastically.

"I'm sorry about what happened a couple of months back, please forgive me." "Is that all you can say? Sorry? I don't think I can ever forgive you Shane, I mean, I only found out cos I happened to overhear what Rachel was saying about me moving out. If I hadn't heard that then when were you gonna tell me, eh? I've moved on Shane, I've forgotten about the fact that we've been friends since the age of nine. And so should you."

The truth was I hadn't moved on, I still loved him even though he only considered me as a friend, and I wanted him now more than ever, but I couldn't give into him; I had to be strong, for my own sake.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be leaving you alone so you can drown in your sorrows." I say as I stand and try to get past Shane, but he takes hold of my arm, "Shane, let go of me please." "No, I won't. I wanna sort this out right here, right now."

"I've said everything I've got to say to you, now will you please let go of my arm!" "Only if you come with me so you can listen to what I have to say, please?" Shane asks giving me that look that could move a mountain. "Alright, now will you please let go of me?" I answer and Shane lets go of me.

I follow him to his flat, where once inside, Shane tells me to go into the living room. "Caitlin, I can explain everything about Rachel and why I didn't tell you that I wanted you to move out." "Go on then." I reply, sitting down.

"I didn't tell you because, well, I never loved Rachel." "Well I still don't get why you didn't ask me to move out." "I didn't ask you to move out because I love you." Shane says shakily. "What did you say?" I reply biting my lip.

"That I love you, and I have since we first got a flat together." "I... I don't quite know what to say to that." I say trying to understand what has just been said. "I love you too." I reply after a while. "I've wanted to tell you for so long, but I didn't know if you felt the same way, so I just forgot about it."

And before I can respond, Shane sits down beside me and kisses me. I pull away and say, "Shane, what happens now?" "Well, you could always stay with me tonight." "Yeah, I'd like that. But... but what about Rachel?" "I broke up with her just after you left two months ago." Shane replies as he reaches out to take my hand.

"I still can't stay, even if I wanted to, I've got to go, I'll see you sometime." I say as I stand. "No, don't go, please." Shane answers as he moves closer towards me and shuts the door so I can't escape. "Shane, I've got to go." "Well, You'll just have to get past me won't you?" Shane answers as he begins to tickle me.

"No, Shane, stop it please," I say giggling. We both fall to the floor Shane still tickling me. He gets me pinned to the floor so I can't move at all and before I can try and get out of it, I feel his lips against mine.

I couldn't do anything so I just melted into Shane's arms enjoying the moment while it lasted...
