flying without wings

chapter fourteen

I was in a quite moment with beepings on the machines next to me when auntie Cecilia came in a hurry. 'You just don't know what you're going to get when you get home Emily!'

She slapped me and it hurt twice as it used to be because of my wounds. 'You stupid girl! No wonder your father doesn't want you! He never wants you do you know that? And he threw you away to Ireland because he hates you and he thinks you would just ruin his life even more!'

I would just usually let it pass. She could do anything to me but nothing would ever take my mam from me. I didn't know why she hated my mam so much. She then tried to cut my blood supply and turned off the machines next to my bed. 'ARRRGGGHHHH!!!! Maaarrrkkkkkk!!!! Nickyyyyy!!! HELLLPPP!!!!!' I didn't know where did I get the strength to yell like that.

'Shut up or I'll even turn off more machines! Now, I can see you like Mark a lot don't you?' Oh no! I was wishing she wouldn't plan anything bad for Mark. Not when finally someone truly cared about me. 'Maaarrrkkkkkk!!!!!!'

She slapped me again but I didn't care. I wanted Mark back on my side. I needed him. I prayed to God, something I haven't done for a long time, that Mark and Nicky would hear me and come back.

Maybe God still listened to me when I realised that I heard fast footsteps on the aisle. But I was wrong, the footsteps went past through my room. I was ready to die and mumbling 'Mam please help me, please help me.'

Then I heard fast footsteps on the aisle. It quickly opened my room's door when auntie Cecilia was ready to slap me again. 'Nicky! Please help me!' Nicky ran quickly but then Mark came behind him. 'Emily!'

Mark ran as quickly as a flash to my side and he pushed auntie Cecilia aside. He quickly hugged me. 'Emily, poor love. Oh my God. Please hang on.' I was crying and shaking again for the hundredth time of the day. I couldn't believe what auntie Cecilia told me about dad and what she did to me.

He was rocking me back and forward when I felt really weak again. 'Mark, my blood supply, the machines.' I could see Nicky was busy keeping auntie Cecilia on the floor. 'Nurse! Please help Emily! Quickly!' Mark yelled for a nurse who was passing by my room.

It felt like ages when the nurse ran and got my blood supply after she turned on my machines again. I felt a little bit better with those machines on. The nurse came in running with a doctor and a pile of other nurses. The doctor quickly fixed my machines on. I didn't want to let go of Mark's hug but I had to. He was still holding my hand.

'Mark, please don't go. Please stay with me.' I whispered. 'I won't, I promise.'
