chapter twenty four
'Dad! What are you doing here? How did you get in?' Mark looked as surprised as I was. I had told him that my mam had died from cancer earlier. He had been great with it.
'Emily! I never thought I'd miss you. My God, seeing you is like seeing your...' 'Ahhh, dad. How do you know I live here?' 'Well, I just do and you forgot to lock your door' 'Maarrk?' Mark only flashed a guilty grin.
I hugged my dad tight. I thought he didn't care about me. I even thought he hated me. This was all too good to be true. When I finally let go of his hug, my dad asked, 'Now, who's this young man eh?' Mark was looking down and, of course, looking gorgeous. 'Huh?'
'Dad, I'd like you to meet my boyfriend...' 'Ahhh, your boyfriend?' I blushed a bit. 'Yeah, dad, this is Mark Feehily. Mark, this is my dad, David Steefall.' This must've been one of my proudest and happiest moment.
'I'll go and make you two some tea okay?' I went to the kitchen and when I was preparing for some tea, Mark came in to the kitchen. 'Hey darling. What are you up to?' Mark hugged me from my back. 'Hey, why aren't you with my dad?' 'Well, he's off to the toilet and is it such a sin that I come here and give you a back hug hmm?' 'Noo.'
I was so happy, nothing could ever make this even more perfect, well, except for the presence of... mam. But didn't she say that she lived in Mark too? 'Em?' 'Hmmm?' 'You've been eating a lot lately yeah? Is everything alright?'
Uh-oh. It clicked to me. He gave me a back hug and he should've felt that I was getting a fatter. I wanted to tell him in a special moment, just the two of us. 'Yeah. Why, do you sense anything wrong?' 'I guess it's just my feeling.' He smiled, one of the sweetest I've ever seen.
