chapter forty one
I woke up feeling so tired I felt like going to sleep for the whole year, but realising I was now a mother made me open my eyes. 'Mrs. Feehily!' I saw Mark's mam was carrying our baby girl in her arms. I mean, she lived in Sligo and it wasn't a short way to Dublin. It made me wonder how long had I been asleep.
'Hello love. Feeling alright now? This baby girl of yours can't stop crying, I think she might want to feel your touch.' Mrs. Feehily moved toward me and put our baby in my arms. She was asleep as soon as she was in my arms and she looked like a little princess. She was so beautiful. I put my finger in her holding and I could see that she looked a lot like Mark.
'Mrs. Feehily, where's Mark?' 'He's getting us dinner love.' She smiled and sat next to me. 'I heard from Mark that you've done great Emily. I'm so happy that I finally have grandchildren. I've always wanted one but look, I've got two now and they're beautiful babies. Thank you love.' She kissed my forehead.
'Hey mothers!' I laughed and shoot his words back straight on. 'Hey daddy!' Mark blushed while me and his mam laughed. 'Listen Mark darling, I have to make a phone call now. Could you please stay here and keep Emily company?' 'Yeah sure, mam. Why wouldn't I?' Mark grinned.
Mrs. Feehily walked toward the door and left the two of us alone. 'So, sweetie, it's been a tiring day hasn't it?' I nodded and smiled at him. The little princess was still in my arms. 'My God, I'm a father! A very proud father of twins!' The way Mark said it was so funny I burst into laughter. But the babies started to cry again.
'I'll take our young lad!' Mark moved toward the baby crib and picked up our baby boy. For a couple of minutes we were busy shushing the babies and when they went back to sleep Mark put each of them back to their crib. 'Thank you for giving birth to our babies sweetie, they're priceless. They're the most beautiful babies I have ever seen in my life.' Mark gave me one of his sweetest smiles.
I was so high and so happy. Things couldn't get better. But it did. Mark looked me straight in the eye with his beautiful blue eyes. I could feel that he wanted to say something serious.
He kneeled down beside my bed and his hand was going around his jacket's pocket. 'Darling, I know this is not one of the most romantic moments. You know I love you more than life itself. We've been through a lot together and you are my back bone, my rock, my tears, my laughter, my soul mate and I am not complete without you...'
At this point I was crying my heart out. Mark stopped and wiped my tears and held my hands again. '...and you're making me flying without wings in every single moment of my life since I met you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. Emily, will you marry me?'
He finally popped the question but instead to giving him an answer, I pulled his hand and kissed him like there was no tomorrow. When I finally pulled up I gave him my answer, 'Yes Mark. I will marry you darling, my sweetheart. I love you so much, You mean more than the world to me.'
Suddenly Mark looked around him and said, 'Why does it always have to be this hospital? I mean, I met you in this hospital, our first kiss was at *this* hospital, our first date was here, our beautiful twins were born *here* and now I just proposed *here*.' He grinned and I started giggling, thinking that he was completely right.
Mark walked toward to our twins and leaned down, 'Did you hear that? Your mam is going to marry me! Yes, she is! Oh yes she is!' Mark was practising his baby talk, trying to amuse the twins. I couldn't help but laugh.
'Oh hang on, let me put this into your finger hun.' Mark walked toward me and slipped a gorgeous solitaire diamond in white gold. I didn't pay attention to the ring when he proposed so I was quite shock to see the ring. 'Oh, it's gorgeous Mark! It's beautiful! Thank you!'
Mark knew I loved that kind of ring and he leaned down to kiss me. 'Hold on there mister, that doesn't mean you're going to get a kiss from me!' Mark pulled back and started to blush again. I laughed so hard, my tummy was in pain. I was thinking deep inside me, what did I do to deserve all these happiness?
