if I let you go (2)

chapter twenty-three

The wedding reception was fantastic. There were a lot of journalists there but Rachel knew how to handle them - she was a journalist herself after all. They posed for a few photographs but then just partied. All of the guys got up and made a speech. They talked about how good it was to finally see Shane happy again after four years of misery. Kian said that he was seriously thinking of shooting him if he hadn't have cheered up again. Bryan said something that made Rachel feel very embarrassed:

"I was very honoured when Rachel asked me to give her away. Although this morning I did have second thoughts," Rachel shot him a puzzled look. "When I saw her standing at the top of the stairs she looked so beautiful I thought 'I don't want to give her away, I want to keep her for myself,' but Shane, you're one hell of a lucky man and I love ya both."

Everybody laughed at Bryan's comment and Rachel hid her red cheeks by giving him a big hug. Rachel and Shane danced together all night. Occasionally she was stolen away by one of the other guys but she couldn't stop smiling at Shane.

Finally, they went back to their house, alone at last. Steven was staying at Shane's parent's house. Shane insisted on carrying Rachel over the threshold and upstairs, they collapsed laughing on the bed.
"So, Mrs. Filan, what do we do now?" Shane brushed the hair gently away from Rachel's face.
"Do you know what I really want?"
"What? A zigazigah?"
"No!" she laughed. "I want to have a little brother or sister for Steven to play with."
"Really? Well, my lovely wife. Your wish is my command."
