chapter five
Sarah woke up in tears the next morning. She'd had a terrible nightmare. Nothing grotesque or revolting, but very upsetting. She had been alone in her dreams for the first time in ages. That bloke, from the boyband she'd seen on the telly who she'd dreamt of long before actually seeing him in reality, wasn't in it like he usually was.
She'd dreamt about him since she was about 14 years old. Of course when her dreams started he was a lot younger too. He'd grown up in her dreams and so had she. She was a different person in her dreams. From what she could make out, she was rich and lived in a huge mansion. He was a servant at her father's house, it was sometime in the 19th century. She could tell because she studied costume design at college and hoped one day to become a costume designer. The clothes she wore and others too, were dated back to the 1800s.
The unfortunate lad had worked for her father since he was a child. Sarah knew she had loved him since the dreams started. She'd been the same age in her dreams as she was out of them. They'd played together as children, though it was frowned upon and therefore kept secret, they'd gotten closer as they'd grown older.
The last dream was different to the others as he'd not been in it, which had never happened before as he'd always been with her. She knew his name, as she'd called him by it. He was called 'Benjamin'. He had always called her 'Lotty' and so she'd conceded that her name must have been 'Charlotte'.
He didn't speak much, but that didn't matter. They didn't need to speak, they knew each other so well. In the last dream she'd been completely dressed in black. She could sense that she was at a funeral as she'd been sitting alone in a church. There had been a coffin at the front and she knew who was in it.
