chapter six
Leanne walked into the plain room, it smelt strongly of bleach. The doctor gestured her to sit down. Leanne nervously perched on the cold leather chair.
"how are you feeling?" the doctor asked. Leanne studied the doctor's expression, searching for a hint as to the results. He was a stern looking man, tall and muscular with slowly receding hair. "ummm ok" Leanne mumbled.
"well, i have the results back from the lab", the doctor's expression said it all, she knew instantly. "oh my god, I'm going to die aren't i?", warm tears filled Leanne's eyes. "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do", the doctor continued, the rest of his words could not be read by her ears. she couldn't take it in. a flood of tears once again pertruded down her cheeks, she cried so often. "I'll go and fetch your mother", the doctor seemed nervous and hastily left the room.
Leanne was left to cope all alone. or was she... her mobile began to ring. Without thinking Leanne pushed the answer button "Leanne?", it was that soft Irish accent "are you there, Leanne" she sniffed. "Kian, oh Kian" muffled words "Leanne, what's wrong, are you crying. Please let me help"
Leanne could not manage words, only sobs. A soft song began to echo down the phone "baby open your heart", Kian's gentle voice warmed her ears. a slight smile lifted her face, she began to sing with him "and I'll be here forever".....
the song finished just as her mum entered the room. "Leanne, my little Leanne", was all her mother could say before she began deep sobs of pain. she ran her through Leanne's hair and rocked her gently.
Kian began to sing again..."goodbye to you my trusted friend" causing tears to flood both his eyes and Leanne's. They sat for what seemed like hours as Kian sang........
